Drivers and passengers can try before they buy.

The sharing economy is alive and well in Australia and the latest partnership between ride-sharing company UberX and peer-to-peer car rental agency DriveMyCar supports this assertion.

DriveMyCar has collaborated with manufacturer Subaru to give Aussie UberX drivers and prospective buyers an opportunity to test drive one of 101 brand new Subaru Imprezas.

From 15 March drivers in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane are able to lease and drive the 2017 model vehicles for $199 per week, foregoing long-term rental commitments and ownership costs.

UberX drivers and passengers benefit from the experience of driving and riding in a brand new car, while earning an income or getting home safely after a night out on the town with friends.

"Having these vehicles available for rent through the peer-to-peer platform will allow thousands of potential customers to experience the new Impreza in real life, in a 'try before you buy' scenario or as an UberX passenger," Subaru Australia managing director Colin Christie said.

Despite Canberrians' ongoing affinity for new cars, national vehicle sales receded again in January.

How much you can make as an Uber driver is a contentious issue. In Australia, Uber drivers make around 75% of their weekly fare total. Use our UberX income calculator to learn how much you could be earning.
