How do I use Uber?
If you're new to Uber you can sign up quickly by searching it in the app store. You'll be asked for your contact details, phone number and credit card details. This won't be charged until you've completed a ride.
To call a ride, open the app and key in your pick-up and drop-off locations and choose your vehicle type. You'll be given a fare estimate before you book so there are no nasty surprises. Then, order your ride and wait for your driver to arrive.
How do I catch a ride from Sydney Airport?
Uber and other rideshare services have specific pick-up areas at Sydney Airport. These are different depending on which terminal you're arriving at. Once you've ordered your ride make your way to the pick-up points to meet your driver.
Domestic Terminal (T2)
All UberX, UberXL and UberSELECT rides pick you up from the Priority Pick-Up Zone outside of the terminal. Follow the signs to the area. All other Uber ride types, including UberLUX and UberASSIST pick you up from the general passenger pick-up area.
International Terminal (T1)
If you're being picked up by an UberX, UberXL or UberSELECT from the International Terminal (T1) you'll need to head to the Priority Pick-Up Area to meet your driver. This is a short walk from the terminal. All other Uber rides, including UberLUX and UberASSIST will pick you up at the limo pick-up area.
Is there a surcharge for Uber at Sydney Airport?
Yes. Sydney Airport charges all UberX and UberBlack pick-ups an access fee which is passed onto the rider and included in your fare estimate when you request your ride.
Can I schedule an Uber pick-up for Sydney Airport?
No. Uber is a ride-on-demand service and when you request your ride you'll be placed in a virtual queue for drivers to accept your ride. As it can take a while for drivers to arrive at the airport, we suggest you start ordering your Uber during or just after you claim your baggage to reduce your waiting time.

How do I catch a ride to Sydney Airport?
To catch a ride to the airport, open the app and input your location and drop-off point. Be sure to pick either T1 (International) or T2 (Domestic) to avoid being dropped off at the wrong terminal as they're not close enough to walk one to the other. Then, wait for your driver to pick you up from your location: there should be no need to walk to a particular pick-up point.
Depending on where you live and for how long you're travelling, taking an Uber may be a cheaper option than finding airport parking.
We've checked out the average cost of an Uber from the CBD plus 10 suburbs in the Sydney metro area and compared the return journey cost to see when it's more economical to take an Uber or to drive to the airport yourself.
When is it cheaper to take an Uber vs airport parking?
With the cheapest parking option being $30 for one day, it's cheaper to park than to take an Uber to and from the airport if you're travelling for 24 hours or less.
However, once you're parking for five days or more, those coming from the CBD (using Circular Quay as the location) or Bondi are likely better off taking an Uber.
If you're travelling in from Mosman, a trip of seven days or less is worth driving for. That's increased up to 12 days for those from Manly.
If you're from suburbs like Penrith, Hornsby, Campbelltown or further, it's worth driving to the airport for trips of any length.
You should also keep in mind that we're looking only at the cost of parking and the Uber ride. These prices don't factor in the cost of petrol from your home or the convenience factor of using an Uber.
