There are a few tricks for earning more as an Uber driver, like driving in certain places or specific times of day, and looking for ways to carry more passengers faster.
For a baseline, you might look at how much someone could make in 14-minute journeys over 4 kilometres, if they work 6 hours a day, make 24 trips a day and drive 5 days a week, assuming 10% of their profits go to fuel and other costs.
Uber type | Gross earnings per trip | Fees deducted per trip | Total earnings |
---|---|---|---|
UberX | $13.90 | Uber fee (25%): $3.47 Fuel and other costs (10%): $1.40 | $9.03 per trip $216.72 per day $1,083.60 per week |
UberBlack | $35.60 | Uber fee (25%): $8.90 Fuel and other costs (10%): $3.60 | $23.10 per trip $554.40 per day $2,772 per week |
UberSUV | $42.00 | Uber fee (25%): $10.50 Fuel and other costs (10%): $4.20 | $27.30 per trip $655.20 per day $3,276 per week |
UberLUX | $52.00 | Uber fee (25%): $13 Fuel and other costs (10%): $5.20 | $33.80 per trip $811.20 per day $4,056 per week |

You could drive all around WA, but sticking to the hotspots, and driving at certain times of day, can help you find more passengers and earn more.
Your riders will automatically pay an additional $3 airport fee on top of their normal fare, but you'll need to read, understand and agree to Perth Airport's terms and conditions before you can start picking up passengers at this hotspot.
To make pickups, you need to wait in the rideshare driver's area and join a virtual queue. Each terminal has its own section, and you will only receive trip requests if you're in the appropriate driver's area.
Once you're in, you'll remain in the queue until you leave the area, reject a trip request, go offline or turn off your phone. Note that you should follow instructions given by airport personnel, and that use of the holding area is only free for the first hour. After that, overstay charges will start applying at standard short term car park rates.

I have full WA HR license, can i drive Uber X? HR license is gained when you hold WA car licence for 2 years.
Hi AB,
Thanks for contacting Finder.
Yes, you may use your WA HR License as you have mentioned that it is a requirement that you have a full driver’s license for at least 2 years to be able to apply for one or upgrade your license into it. You also need to have an F-extension on your license issued by the Department of Transport.
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Ash
Have held a full driver’s license in any state or territory for at least 12 months means only in Australia? Or my Mongolian driver’s license counted?
Hi Tumee,
Thank you for contacting Finder.
Yes, you will need to have a Full Australian Driver’s License for a minimum of 12 months. Your Mongolian Driver’s License will not be valid for you to be able to drive Uber in Perth.
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Ash
Hi i just converted my International license to Western Australia HR License which is also equal to 2 years old C class WA license, can i drive Uber X with that license?
Hi AB,
Thanks for your comment and I hope you are doing well.
While an international licence is a valid licence, UBER strictly needs a full WA driver’s licence and a licence in any state or territory for at least 12 months.
Hope this helps and feel free to reach out to us again for further assistance.
Best,
Nikki
Greetings,
I am an international student with a foreign drivers license. Could I be an uber driver with that license?
Hi Martin,
Thanks for getting in touch! Having a foreign driver’s licence is one document that you can use to present to Uber as part of their eligibility requirements, however to be able to fully be an Uber driver in Perth, you must have the ff: requirements:
Be aged 21 or older
Be driving an Uber-approved vehicle
Hold a full WA driver’s licence. Provisional (P) licenses don’t qualify.
Have held a full driver’s licence in any state or territory for at least 12 months
Have their vehicle appropriately covered by third party property car insurance at least or comprehensive car insurance. Customised rideshare insurance is also worthwhile considering.
Hold an F-extension for their driver’s license, issued by the Department of Transport. This involves background and medical check.
Complete a free vehicle inspection at a registered Uber inspection site
When you are able to complete the requirements above, go to the Uber website to get the process on how to start the application.
Hope this helps and best of luck on Uber-ing!
Cheers,
Nikki
Hi,
Could my family drive for Uber?
Hi Bo,

Hi i own a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. Which catagory would my car be able to work amoungst?
Thank you
Hi Simon,
Thanks for your message. You can choose whatever UBER type to drive around Perth however you’d be able to gain maximum sales if you choose the category that can ride more than 4 passengers such as Uber X, Uber XL, or Uber Assist. Uber Eats can also be an option as it is not dependent on the number of passengers it can accommodate.
Hope this helps and happy Ubering!
Best,
Nikki
Hi, I own a Hyundai Active X 2018 model SUV. Where does my vehicle fall under the Uber type?
Hi Vince,
Thanks for getting in touch! Since your Hyundai can seat a maximum of 5 people, you can choose to either use the UberSelect or UberBlack that requires at least 4 seaters. Hope this helps!
Best,
Nikki

Is the Nissan Qashqai eligible to be an Uberxl?
Hi David,
Thanks for reaching out! The models of Nissan cars on our site include a Nissan X-Trail, Pathfinder, Dualis, or Patrol. Our page doesn’t show a Nissan Qashqai on the list but it would help if you check the requirements of an UBER XL below:
UberXL
-10 years old or less (from current year)
-4-door SUV or large passenger vehicle
-Up to 6 passengers
-Registered and CTP-insured in Western Australia
-Additional passenger capacity; No former taxis, government-branded or rebuilt vehicles
You can also reach out to UBER’s customer service team to confirm this information.
Hope this was helpful. Don’t hesitate to message us back if you have more questions.
With Care,
Nikki
