But before we get into it, what's your life lessonAlex Hourigan
of the week owl? Okay, I don't know if you're gonna already know this. But when I found out it blew my mind. But did you know that Australia is one of the few countries that starts a new season? On the first of the month?Sally McMullen
I saw that on tick tock,Alex Hourigan
what the hell so other countries started like mid month on like the 21st or the 22nd. Like America and Europe, I think started mid month, which is just disgusting to me. Because also fair enough. Don't come from other countries. Because they go through like the salt. They go from the solstice and like the winter Equinox. But it just doesn't. doesn't hit right. Like you can't be like, Oh, first day of summer on the 21st. Yeah. Doesn't change every year. Yeah. So because I think it it shifts whenever the solstice or the winter Equinox is, I don't know, I didn't go too deep into like memorising the different seasons in other countries. But yeah, it's just in. We are one of the few countries that starts a new season. On the first of the month.Sally McMullen
I was so wild.Alex Hourigan
I don't even remember that. I didn't really remember when they I suppose I'm like January. Blew my mind. And I hate it. It's just not clean.Sally McMullen
Like when you said it's just not fair that daylight savings is only for three months of the year. I was like out for six months. It feelsAlex Hourigan
so great. Three months. Feels like it. Yeah, that's facts. All right. What's your lesson? Okay,Sally McMullen
my life lesson is a quick one. And it is don't stand right on top of the baggage carousel when you're at the airport waiting for your luggage. Every time this happens, and I just don't get it. But every time that happens when we go to the airport, you're not doing yourself a favour. Like you're not gonna get your luggage really any quicker by literally like laying down on the baggage carousel, and you're blocking the view for everyone and you just look like a Wang guy like take a few steps back for the love of God.Alex Hourigan
Fine. You will still get your bag. Yeah, we were trying to get our bags off and this chick literally just stood in front of me and I always overpack and I'm very very weak. So when I tried to lift it off, I ended up absolutely flogging this check with my heavy suitcase. And I apologise and I was like sorry but also that the responsibility is also on you there move Yeah, literally that's the responsible for that. So you guys does. She's been through some things. She has she hasSally McMullen
from college, a little from Columbia. All right, well, now that we've got our life lessons out of the way, let's get Georgie on the horn. Hey, Georgie. Welcome to to break check scale.Georgie Stevenson
Hello, lovely. Ladies, thank you so much for having me. I'm so excited to be here.Sally McMullen
We're so excited to have you. We were just saying we can't wait for you to change our lives. Make us into better women.Alex Hourigan
Yeah, George is going to fix all of my problems in the next like 30 minutes right.Georgie Stevenson
Guys, this is a lot of pressure.Unknown Speaker
Just how we like challenges.Sally McMullen
All right, well, let's get right into the juicy stuff. So in today's episode, we're going to be talking about healthy mindsets and routine And basically how to have your heart girl reset. But we know, it's important to prioritise a healthy mindset. But what exactly is that? Can you talk us through what that means?Georgie Stevenson
Um, I guess like, in laymen terms, like talking simply about it, it's just think of it the way of, you know, how you prioritise, you know, physical health, so you prioritise, taking the stairs, or going to gym when you can, that sort of thing. It's also really important to prioritise something for your mental health. And I think we're getting really, I think we're getting a lot better at it. But I think sometimes it's just kind of put to the back end. And, you know, then we're wondering why we have so many negative thoughts, and we have these low moods, and we don't feel like very good about ourselves. But just like, you know, when you work out, there needs to be repetition, there needs to be consistency, there needs to be showing up for yourself and prioritising yourself, it is the exact same for your mental health.Sally McMullen
Why do we find that so hard? Is it because we can't see it? Like we can't see the results on like, say, if you are focusing on your physical health, like what is with that? Yeah.Georgie Stevenson
I 100%. And see, the thing is, it's kind of similar in the way though, because if you think about your physical health, it's not like you do one gym session, then you have abs.Sally McMullen
I wish I wishGeorgie Stevenson
I was with my girlfriend the other day, and we're both postpartum. So we're, you know, getting back into it after having babies. And we were doing this really hard session. And we were both like, if we don't have ABS, by the end of this, I'm gonna readAlex Hourigan
this out all the time. But like, I'm lazy by nature, like, it's just who I am. I was born like a lazy person. And my parents always said, like, I'm just lazy. And it's true. So like, if I actually get to the gym on the odd occasion, I'm like, I'm the king of the world. I will kick it off for 10 years. And once I finished, I'm so like, pumped?Georgie Stevenson
But yeah, honestly, like working your mental health is the exact same Is it almost takes momentum, it almost takes implementing things being consistent. And as you do it, you do start to, I guess, like, notice the difference in yourself in how you feel and how you think in how much clarity you have. And then once you do get momentum, it's easier to stick to it. I guess it's kind of like any other habit. But yeah, 100% what you guys said. It's just, it's almost just put to the back end sometimes.Alex Hourigan
Yeah, I think the funny thing is, as well, sometimes those days that you're in like a really good mood, like some days, I will just be like that whole song of walking on sunshine. And I need to have an active moment mindfully be like, Okay, what have I done today, that has put me in such a good mood. Because you know, sometimes you just go about our days, and you're not necessarily in a good mood or a bad mood, but it's just today. And then other days, I'm like voice, but I need to think, Okay, what have I done that has put me in such a good mood, whether it was going from wanting a walk or, you know, like calling my mom in the morning or something like that. That's kind of put me there. So I know that I need to keep repeating doing that. Yeah, like, how can I replicate this? Yeah, and it's not seven vodka, lime sodas on a Friday night, but I'll keep doing that. I'm sorry.Unknown Speaker
At the time, that's a great idea. ButAlex Hourigan
at the time of the seven foglamps hours, I'm like, Oh, I'm having the next day I'm like, But speaking of things that don't make you feel too great. What are some things people often do that makes them feel drained? And how should they avoid them? Asking for a friend?Unknown Speaker
Nothing to do with me at all, nothing?Sally McMullen
What am I doing wrong?Georgie Stevenson
Well, if I think about this, weed, like personally, how I feel, usually I start to feel drained when I'm not filling up my own cup. And maybe my boundaries are not very strict. So maybe, you know, things I'm not filling up my own cup is for me, personally, I'm not consistently journaling or meditating or doing you know, those little acts of service for myself because my love language is acts of service. And then what starts to happen is, for example, with your boundaries, maybe you're you know, maybe it's in your team, you're letting people kind of walk all over you or you're, you're saying, Yep, I'll do that. Yep, I'll do that and you don't have the energy. So I think it's about looking about looking at your schedule looking at your life, and just saying, hey, where am I actually not honouring myself? Where am I actually not serving, you know, my energy? Where am I not filling up my cup. And something I actually do this as like a little tip that I do every single Friday is I look at my schedule, and I go, Okay, what's happening in the week ahead, and I first of all, confirm all my appointments. So you know, my EA would have confirmed with you guys any meetings I have on my team, etc, etc. And then I like will literally put in my calendar, my when I'm working out when I'm going to journal and meditate when I'm, you know, maybe gonna book myself a massage or, you know, something, my acupuncture appointment and I put those things in. And then I also put in, you know, my work time and stuff. And I also put in my social events, but then you have to look at your calendar and you have to be like, okay, is what, what I'm doing next week, aligning with my priorities with you know, myself, am I honouring myself? Or do I need to change here like, constantly checking in with yourself and your schedule, and your boundaries?Alex Hourigan
I really liked that as well scheduling things that aren't just work so that you can really look at a calendar and be like, Okay, how much time do I actually have to myself to be able to check in and spend time alone because one thing that I really learned about myself, especially in the last 12 months was that I'm definitely an extrovert, but I'm definitely an introverted extrovert, like I need to spend time alone to recharge my battery so that I can go and be an absolute pest to all my friends on the night out. And they really like Google. But if I don't get that alone time, I'm like, oh, like, driving? Yeah,Unknown Speaker
so what NC, that's what I would do is like, I would look at my workweek, I look where my energy is going. And I'm the exact same as you. And then, you know, if I do have something on that Friday night, it might be maybe I need to swap that out for something where it is alone time. And I can fill up my cup. So you know, I can go see my friends on the Saturday or Sunday, etc.Alex Hourigan
Yeah, I used to do this really annoying thing that if I didn't have like any kind of social plans, I would panic. Like if I didn't have anything social plans in a week, I would panic and be like, I'm so lonely. I have no friends well, but until then I'd text friends and be like, let's catch up, bla bla, and then I would end up having planned every single night of the week. And then I would hate that. Like I either went from having absolutely no plans during the week to having plans every night. And I was like, this is not working for me. So it's definitely about finding that balance and what you can kind of eat more than you can chew.Georgie Stevenson
Also having friends like I actually did the exact like I feel like I'm you know, I'm someone who's really good my boundaries. And I'm someone who's always checking in with my energy and am I honouring myself but I actually did the exact same thing. This weekend that just went my husband went to a Bucs party. And I thought he was just going the Saturday night and then like the Friday rolled up and he was like, oh, it's like car by. And I was like, oh, like he wasn't going to be there the Friday. And so then I text like all my girlfriends, and I'm like, you want to come around for a wine. Like I felt like I had to fill my time and I actually locked in something with a girlfriend. And then it got like half an hour before she was going to arrive. And I sat there and I'm like, I had the busiest work week. And I was like, and also I have a nine month old daughter and she you know, she was with me. And I was like, Georgia. What do you actually read like need right now? And I was like, I would actually just love some time with IV. And just some time to myself. Yes. Yeah. And then I had to cancel on that friend. And she was so good. She was so good. She was like, Oh, I know, I know what you're like. But those like that's the exact same position that I was in. And I had to actually sit back and have some self awareness about it because you do you just get caught in that. Let's fill my time. Yeah, and then you feel shit after Yeah.Alex Hourigan
I love friends. That is so cool. And you bail on them. They're like so fun. Yeah, there's nothing there is nothing better in this world. Then when you can't be bothered to go to plans and then that friend or date or your partner text you and they're like, Hey, do you mind if we do another night? And you're like, No, not at all? Yeah, you're like cancelling me. That's my love language. I'mSally McMullen
10 times they're hoping you're gonna bail. Like every time do you have any tips Georgie on the for the people places out there who maybe don't know how to set those boundaries and you know, feel like they're going to let a friend down or a work commitment down or whatever, even if I do know that maybe their boundaries are being pushed. You askedAlex Hourigan
me for a friend's house? Yeah. For the pavement places now,Sally McMullen
it's me, I'm the people pleaser, and also our friend Halina.Georgie Stevenson
I think it's about, you know, it's like with anything like, practice makes perfect. Like, you have to, well, you have to decide and you have to prioritise, like, are you taking your boundary seriously or not? Because what you constantly, you know, except you will attract. So if you're happy to constantly people, please and then feel shit after and not put yourself first, like, I guess you have to have a very honest conversation with yourself. And it can start really small, like, how I do it is I always start with, like, I am sorry, I committed to this thing. Or if you know, you haven't committed that you want to say no, but like, I am sorry, but then just being very honest and being like, you know what, I actually just really need some alone time, or I've actually committed to a lot this week. And that would just, you know, be too much. And just being very honest with them. And it's like, you know, like, your friends should want to honour your boundaries, they should want to honour your energy. And if they don't, it's like, you know, are they really a friend? Do you really need that person in your life, but I totally get it, I can be a very direct person. So I think it's like starting slow apologise. Be very honest about where your energy is. Because if you're like, oh, look like I literally don't have the energy. What's that person gonna say?Sally McMullen
Yeah. You're coming out, bitch.Unknown Speaker
All right, I'll see you soon.Alex Hourigan
It's hard because I feel like sometimes you do. I know. For myself, personally, I can just fall, as I said, into bit of like a little bit of laziness that I do need sometimes someone to just be like, no, come on, we're gonna have fun, or I do need to rally myself and be like, You know what, once I have a shower, and I get ready, and I'm there, I am going to enjoy myself. So it's probably a little bit of under, like, what you're saying, understanding what you need, and whether, you know, you really do need that time to yourself, or you're just being like, Oh, I really can't be bothered to do my makeup right now. That's me. I'm like, I had a nap. And now I'm bit sleepy. That's what I need to figure out. But as Lisa and I were on a cruise the other week. And it was like 1130. And I fully lied. I was like, I just need to go to the room and take my contact lenses out. I was going to go to bed. I was just planning on fully smoke bombing. And anyway, I was laying in the room and say, I was like, where are you? And I was like, I've accidentally fell down on the bed now I can't get back up. She was like, I'm coming down. And I was like, Oh, no. But we ended up like, I got changed. She was like, come on, you got you fine. And we went back off. We had like a really good rest of the night. So sometimes, you know, you can rally but understand your boundary.Sally McMullen
I knew you had one more. Because I got thereAlex Hourigan
on the end. Yeah. But for those who are listening to this right now, and they are feeling like they're in a bit of a rut or having trouble introducing something new into their lives. How would you suggest to introduce something new to your routine or develop something that is a little bit more of a change if you feel that way?Georgie Stevenson
Yeah, well, I'm gonna just, you know, copy a great tick tock case, orAlex Hourigan
we do that all the time. story about life. Yeah, tick tock, literally a whole show.Georgie Stevenson
So if I am like feeling in a rot, if I'm feeling unaligned, and I'm like, Okay, I need to get back in alignment. And I need to, you know, start that I actually I did this recently, and I literally called it like a hot girl reset. And I had just like a bunch of really simple habits, I stalked her. But if you're kind of noted that not even at that point, when you don't know those habits, I always say like, pick something for your body. So you know, some sort of movement, some sort of movement is just so important, because we're literally like moving energy in our body. We're shaking things around. And we all know how good we feel when we release endorphins. So something for your body, something for your soul. So this is for your filling up your cup, this is going to be so different for everyone, and then something for your mind. So something for my mind is my daily practices all journaling, meditating gratitude lists can be super simple or can be very complex. It depends what you're into. And like that's three things that you can implement into your routine every single day. That is going to make such a huge difference if you're consistent and you honour them. Love.Sally McMullen
I love that idea of a hot girl reset.Georgie Stevenson
What's something that you guys would pick Something for your body something for your mind, you know something for yourself, body.Alex Hourigan
Go on. Everyone else go but body a little bit self love time. I think having a little bit of self pleasure self love time literally puts you in a basket. Like yeah, if I'm having a shitty day, I'm gonna go have a blank. And then for my soul, I love to read, like I love reading books. And I feel like it kind of takes me out of the present because it's really difficult to switch my brain off, it's just going a million miles an hour, it's always thinking about things that I have to do or things that happened or a fight that happened, you know, three years ago, an ex boyfriend that I think have a really good comeback at that time. So I really like to read and having that time because it's really good for a long time. And then for my mind, that was the third one, right? Yep. Mind. Hmm. I think it's honestly I'd say the readingGeorgie Stevenson
would be for your mind. Oh, okay. For myself, that's taking you, you know, into the present moment and like being with yourself, soAlex Hourigan
I don't know what would be my soul. Like, ISally McMullen
do recommend spending time with Iran. Yeah, yeah.Alex Hourigan
And like, because as well, I'm so like, affectionate with my friends as well. Like, I will literally sit and curl up to friends and having that like, they're my family as well. So I would say that's like sitting with my roommate watching a movie ordering UberEATS and drinking two bottles of squealing pig RosaeSally McMullen
Yeah, I think mine for body would be going to the gym or going to Pilates or something like that, like something where I've had to make the effort to go and do it. And then I feel accomplished afterwards. Oh, my soul probably listening to music. Like putting on a solid playlists can really like shake me out of a funk. And then from my mind, I would say reading and and writing as well. Probably. It's good to like, write it down. Let it go Let it out. But not like a did I read? I love like a good list making Yeah.Georgie Stevenson
Yeah. Like getting anything out of your head onto paper is amazing. Because it's like, I feel like it takes away its power off you.Sally McMullen
And also sometimes when you write it down, you realise how stupid it is, when you read it back to yourself, then when you marinate on it in your head, you know, I saw,Alex Hourigan
I think it was a tick tock. It's either tick tock or therapy can't remember which one. It was same same now. But it was when you're stressed about multiple things or something's upsetting you you're stressed it might be work might be your personal life is to write down two columns. And one column is the things you can control. And then one column is the things that you can't control. And it makes you realise why you're like that there's no point in stressing about the things that you can't control, all you can do is what you can put in that column of the things that you can control. And you literally tear it in half and then like throw away the things that you can't control. And when ever I am stressing, sometimes I just do it in my head, can I control there's no benefit, like I just get rid of it in my head. And it does really help doing that. Free up your special stress free anxiety nugget.Georgie Stevenson
I love that so much. And I actually do something similar, where when something stressful is happening, I feel like it's human nature to automatically go to that negative place. But something I do is like I kind of switched around and I'm like, like, what would actually be the best case scenario here. Like the best case life happens for me, you know, scenario and like lean into that rather than like stressing about all the negative things because I realised I straightaway go to that negative, negative place. And I'm like, if I can retrain my brain to like keep going to actually what if this happens and it's like betterAlex Hourigan
into it. Love that rural such healthy mindset.Sally McMullen
I know, look at us go. We actually put up a question box before we jumped on mic to ask the checks if they had any questions for you. And we got quite a few questions about manifestation. So can you tell us what does that actually mean? How does it work? And how can you stay motivated on your manifestation journey? Yes,Alex Hourigan
can I manifest Henry Cavill just wondering because Oh, yeah, that was yes. All right, better luck next.Georgie Stevenson
You could manifest someone who's you know the vibe of him, but I can't guarantee it's gonna be him. Okay. So basically manifesting is literally just like I guess like the dictionary definition is just bringing your thoughts into reality. So the whole basis of manifesting is, I guess, being very intentional about how you think, and very intentional about how you live, because what you think how you, I guess, train your brain comes to fruition into your reality. So a lot of people who teach, teach manifestation say like, you know, your life and the life that you're living is from previous thoughts, if that makes sense. So if you want to change your life, you change your thoughts. Obviously, it's like, I hate when people think manifesting is just like, sitting here thinking of a million dollars, and then a million dollars and hearing, it's not like that I would love if it was like that. It's not really like that. But it's being very intentional about your mind. And also, I guess, realising how powerful it is. And I see it as a way of also it's taking control of your life and your reality and saying, Actually, I get to create my reality, rather than sitting in on, you know, just random things happen. And I have no control. And, you know, I don't get to take control of my life. Because, yeah, like, random things are just constantly happening. It's about taking part, it's about taking action to there's not just the sitting there thinking, but also being very intentional with your thoughts. And also, a big thing is like, right leg repetition. So I'm gonna butcher this quote, because I watch it every quote, but it's something like, you know, let's say we have, I think it's, I don't know, I don't know the number, let's just say it's like, you know, a million thoughts. And so if all those thoughts are negative, of course, negative things are going to constantly happen. So if we can just kind of, it's not even about having all positive thoughts, because that's just crazy. And you need to feel your feelings and you need to have lessons in your life, you need to, like learn them and grow and evolve. But it's just about kind of what I was saying before, of leaving that actually, this is a great example is when something quote unquote, bad is happening in my life, instead of like, melting down and being like, oh my god, this is the worst, you know, bad things always happening to me and taking a victim mentality. I always think to myself, Okay, this is so interesting. What's the lesson here? Because another thing you know, in the manifesting world is if you don't learn the lesson, it's just going to keep happening in different ways. So that's like, you know, we all have that friend who constantly tracks the Fatboy and it's like, Are you learning the lesson? Or are you just constantly tracking this same person? Anyone here?Alex Hourigan
Shut up.Sally McMullen
It's me. I'm the fuckUnknown Speaker
no one feels best personally attacked it's about you know, taking I'm going to give you sorry to like sunburn, sunburn, the mood but like, for example, me and my husband had a very long trying to conceive journey. And when we did finally get pregnant, I had a miscarriage. And obviously, that is just like, possibly in that moment, it was the very worst thing that could happen. And it's not like I sat there and I was like, what's the lesson here? This is gonna be great. I obviously sat in that feeling. I worked through those feelings. But you know, six months later, we conceived our daughter, IV, who is just like, the best thing to ever happen to me. And then I had this whole journey with I got my implants out during that time, and I was really unwell, and I got better. And so at that moment, it was yes, it was like the worst thing to happen to me. But it's like six months later, with hindsight, I can see that that actually happened for me, even though it was a quote unquote, negative experience. So that's like, I felt like I went a bit dark then. Oh, no, no,Alex Hourigan
thank you for sharing that with us. Um,Georgie Stevenson
it's about I guess, yeah. Taking control of your life and not playing, you know, the victim mentality and actually going, what are the lessons I'm learning? Can I keep evolving? And also, let's just be very intentional about what I'm thinking and how I'm reacting to, you know, my life and my circumstances and moving from there. Yeah, I hope that explained it. It'sAlex Hourigan
like swim around in the feeling but don't drown.Georgie Stevenson
Yes, yeah. And also, I think I just want to do say like, I'm not into the, you know, the toxic positivity where we're just like, happy all the time. You know, like, I had a really down day yesterday and I just like, let myself have that day, feel the feelings, wrote out a couple of feelings in my journal. It's just like, this is interesting. It came up and like, going through the motions, but then also having your tools to when you're like, Okay, I'm going to get out of this mood. I'm going to take some action. Yeah, correct. Yeah.Sally McMullen
For anyone who is feeling like they are in a bit of a, you know, a slump, or having a bad day for anybody who's listening, what's something that they can do right there second, once they finish this podcast to get themselves out of it, like what works for you?Georgie Stevenson
Well, definitely, like I said, like, don't be afraid to sit in those feelings. And I guess like, don't judge them. Don't be like, Oh, I'm such a sad sack. I'm always moody, you know, and be shitty to yourself be like, this is interesting, let's try and be aware of these feelings, maybe write them down. And just like, like we said before, when you put feelings or how you're feeling onto paper, they usually lose their power and you can be like, Okay, this is something I can't control, let's, you know, leave this here. So that's something I would do at the start. And then a big thing for me is either moving the energy so literally getting up having a little dance, or whether that's a gym session, or going for a run. And then I a big thing is like changing your environment. So sometimes you just need to like cleanse things you need to get out of that funk. So obviously know if we're at work, we can't just be like see your work.Alex Hourigan
I'm like my guy.Georgie Stevenson
Literally. So maybe it's about like, you know, going for a walk or switching things just switching things up. And then the last thing is just like being super kind to yourself. And like I said, just giving yourself that time try and find something that will fill up your cup. You know, whether that's getting your favourite food for lunch, or texting when your favourite friends or you know, just those small little things like that. I think we don't realise how much the small things actually make such a huge difference especially if we can like kind of consistently do it.Sally McMullen
Love that we hear that checks. Okay, write it down, move your body switch it up and be bloody nice to yourself.Unknown Speaker
Yeah, cleanse your environment change things out.Alex Hourigan
Text your bestie like go find a funny tick tock intensity friendSally McMullen
works every well thank you so much Georgie for coming on to to broke checks. I feel like a whole new woman. I'm sure all the chicks do.Georgie Stevenson
Guys, thank you so much for having me. It's been such a pleasure and such a fun chat to have.Alex Hourigan
I finally feel draw. Love you. Bye. Bye.Sally McMullen
