Okay, ever since we got COVID over the break, I feel like my brain hasn't been quite there. I felt a bit slow, a little bit fuzzy.

Roll the tapes! But in all seriousness, I just haven't felt 100% since then. And apparently I'm not imagining it. It's a thing called COVID brain fog and a lot of people who've had COVID are suffering from it. So maybe you're feeling a little bit more lethargic than usual, you're struggling to remember things, like how to spell words that you used to be able to.

Bro, I've never been able to spell. So like that's okay.

Yeah, can't blame COVID.
Alex Hourigan
Yeah.

But apparently it is a real thing and it can last for up to eight months after getting COVID.

Yeah, so if you haven't been feeling your best after having the spicy cough, you're not alone. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix.

Exactly. We're all in the same boat. But there is no quick fix for COVID brain fog but there are a few little activities that you can do to stimulate your brain. And you can do these whether or not you've had COVID, really. We could all probably use it. Stuff like learning a new language on Duolingo, Alex.

That's my favourite thing to do! I only did it so I could flirt with this French bartender that we both- well, I like. Shit, sorry Chris.

But yeah, so doing stuff like that, picking up a new hobby, and then maybe trying to teach somebody else how to do that hobby. Because that helps stimulate the brain as well. Reading more. So just like little activities like that to get you know, the brain juices flowing.

Exactly. You basically need to flex that muscle again. So yeah, that's what I learnt. All right, your turn. What did you learn this week?

Okay, so my life lesson this week is become friends with the block button. Don't be afraid of hitting that block button. The spicy Aries is back y'all! But I read this thing and it basically said don't be afraid of the block button because if someone's making you feel bad, they're texting you or you're seeing things on their social media. Maybe it's your ex or like friends that are excluding you from things. How dare someone make you feel bad on the phone that you pay for?

Yeah, but I think unfortunately for me, it was a combination of peeing myself and having diarrhoea at the same time. And I think I was about 19 and I was coming back from, you know, when you intend to go home straight after work, but you like to stop here and you go there and whatever. And so I was on the bus and I just had a sudden pain, you know, when your stomach starts gurgling. And I was like surely I can hold on. Like who has ever shat themselves? Not me.

And so you know that, the feeling of when you, the closer you get to the destination, the less you're able to hold on?

Cuz it had been a while. It's like, I caught the bus got off the bus, jump on another bus. That's what happens when you live in the East and take public transport, it's never simple. So I'm at the park and I'm literally thinking to myself, "I might just. No, no, I couldn't". So I get to my front door, I don't have my keys. I don't have my keys. So I'm going around the side of my house and like I swear I just meant to fart, I just meant to fart, broken the seal but I'm like it's just, it's just heat. It's just moisture. It's just heat, it's just moisture.

So I'm like going through the side gate. I'm like double oh seven, I can do this. I get to the back of my house. The back door is like slightly stuck, I push it open, I was trying to get my overalls off. It was like this cute little jumpsuit with like the invisible zipper in the back. I swear to goodness.

The universe gave you every hurdle you could possible have.

I was like, we're letting it go, we're letting it go. And like I was this close to the bathroom, and then shat myself. But because it was diarrhoea, it had just like a little bit of pee in it.

I'm- I know, right, you would assume. But I there was one time that I was, it was when I was still living in the hills and I was getting the bus home from the city after work and there was this boy I liked. And we would always do after work drinks and I'd have to get the bus from the city at like 9:30 at night back home. And I was like, this is a choice. I ended up sitting on this bus and I was like, if I let out just a little bit, maybe the pain will stop. And I was like no, because I know it's going to be floodgates will open. So I had to get off the bus 10 minutes from home, cuz I was like, this isn't gonna work, call my dad and be like, "Can you come get me from the bus stop. I really need to go to the toilet". So my dad at like 10 o'clock at night had to come get me from a bus stop, like 10 minutes from my house and I was in a lot of trouble. I was a grown woman, as well.

Your dad was like, I didn't think I would have to be here helping you go to the bathroom again.

He was so mad. And I was so intoxicated as well. That dad was like, "What are you doing?". He was so mad. I was in so much trouble. And I was like in the back of the car. He was yelling at me and I just turned and I was like, "Why are you being so mean?".

Ah, yeah look, choices were made. All for some random man that turned out to be a piece of garbage too. So like, do yourself a favour, don't go for the drinks, go home so you don't need to pee yourself on a bus.

I stopped drinking at 18, picked it back up at 27. But not in, in a way that I'm like, I don't want to be ostracised from social situations, not in like I enjoy drinking way. I think drinking is such a labour intensive way to feel some kind of high. It's a lot.

And also to feel like you can connect with people like I definitely was that person that used to be like, "Why aren't you drinking? Like no, like, you have to drink like you", and I'm like, God, that was a dick move. Like, you don't need to do that. It was definitely more like 18 year old Alex, 19 year old Alex because that's kind of what we're taught. It's like, not taught but what we see. Especially in like pop culture or like the TV shows you watch it's when everyone's drunk, they're like weee!

And you know how when you've had a couple drinks, you go through that high being like, I'm on top of the world? I've never written better articles in my life. But then you like, hit the low and you're like, oh, no, and then you look at time you're like, I've still got five hours that I have to be here. So never again.
