TripAdvisor’s Best Destinations of the World 2018 revealed
Sydney inches into the top 25, but who else made the cut?
This year's TripAdvisor Traveller's Choice Awards' Top 25 Destinations of the World has been unveiled. And while the list has some tried and true favourites like Paris and London, there are a few more unique additions this year such as Hurghada in Egypt and Jamaica which don't typically make lists like these.
But back to the winners.
Coming up as the #1 destination is the city of lights (or of romance, depending on which way you see it) Paris. With flight prices falling below $1,000 return it's also becoming a cheaper holiday destination for Australians. Keen to get there before word gets out? Qatar Airways has flights to Paris over Christmas and New Year's for under $1,200 return right now. True story.
Australia's favourite island Bali however does it for the Asia/Pacific region in 4th place while Europe's island paradise Crete comes 5th.
It might seem like Europe is dominating our feeds at the moment but only 8 of the 25 destinations on the list are Europe based. This includes Istanbul which sits on the Europe and Asia continent border.
Other Asian destinations that caught travellers eyes included Phuket (#11), Hanoi (#12), Siem Reap (#13), Tokyo (#18), Kathmandu (#19), Hong Kong (#20), New Delhi (#22) which is good news for Aussies as these are some the best-priced destinations for us thanks to budget carriers like Scoot, AirAsia and Jetstar headed their way.
Here's the full list - as well as where to check out the best deals to each city.
