TripAdvisor reveals destinations with falling hotel rates
Stretch your dollars further by booking accommodation in these cheap destinations.
In a world where costs are expected to rise with every year that goes by, the latest data from TripAdvisor’s 2017 Hotel Pricing Report has revealed that hotels may in fact be an exception to this rule. Well, some of them at least.
The report details how the average nightly rate of hotels in different cities around the world has changed and will change over the course of the year according to hotel pricing data gained from TripAdvisor and its booking partners.
Looking at the numbers, a couple of destinations have seen a noticeable drop in nightly rates making them that much more appealing to visit this year.
One of the destinations that saw the greatest drop in hotel prices was the Philippines. Its average nightly rate is $205, which is 15% less than it was last year. It sounds a little steep, but these averages include accommodation across all star ratings and include pricing in both peak and non-peak periods. The Philippines is also home to White Beach, Boracay, which made the top 25 for the best beaches in the world in TripAdvisor’s Traveller’s Choice Awards 2017.
The United Kingdom also saw a notable drop in average nightly rates. Rates fell by 13% to $260, which could possibly be attributed to the falling exchange rate with the British pound, making it one of the cheapest destinations for Australians to travel right now.
Another destination with falling hotel prices (also possibly attributed to a falling exchange rate) is Malaysia. Its average nightly rate is down to $183, which is 4% less than last year. As of the beginning of 2017, the Australian dollar is 7.12% stronger than it was last year against the Malaysian ringgit.
For those who love high-end luxury without the high-end price tag, a few notable destinations where nightly rates have dropped boast stunning accommodation options that are featured in TripAdvisor’s Travellers Choice Awards list for the best hotels of 2017. These include Mandapa, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve hotel in Ubud (Indonesia), Turin Palace Hotel in Turin (Italy), Portrait Firenze in Florence (Italy), Hanoi La Siesta Hotel & Spa in Hanoi (Vietnam) and Hotel 41 in London (UK). This just proves that you don’t have to settle for less to pay less.
