TripAdvisor announces the best time to book hotels for the most in savings this winter
Smart travellers can save as much as 49% on hotels.
If you've been feeling the chill and starting to think about a winter escape then TripAdvisor's latest report has come at the right time. The destination review site's "Best Time to Book" report, reveals when Australian travellers can find and book the lowest hotel prices for trips to warmer spots around the world.
To make things easy for us TripAdvisor analysed historical pricing data to figure out the time periods with the lowest rates on hotels this winter season in popular destinations worldwide. The "best time to book” is when prices were consistently less than the average.
The report shows that for a hotel in Asia, booking within five weeks of your trip can save you as much as 22%, compared to peak rates early in the year.
Early birds do generally get better prices when booking a stay in Europe but travellers planning a visit to Paris or London this August should book within five weeks of their trip to save up to 25%.
Over in the South Pacific, the average rate for a hotel is $408 per night but clued-on Aussie travellers who book within two months of their trip can save as much as 9%.
Destinations in the US allow a little bit more flexibility for last minute planning, with the report showing that you can find savings within one month of booking a summer trip to popular cities including New York, Washington D.C, Las Vegas and Miami.
A small number of the results matches up with Skyscanner data which shows for example that the best time to book a trip to Ho Chi Minh City is one month in advance where you can save up to 7% on your airfare.
Generally, though, you’re usually better booking your flights much earlier than your hotels and around the four to six month mark is the sweet spot.
