Tribe is a governance token for the Fei protocol, which was launched in early 2021 with the goal of delivering a reliable stablecoin that bridged the gap between coins stabilised with fiat currency collateral and coins backed by crypto collateral. Tribe holders gain the right to vote on adjustments to the stablecoin, FEI. Fei’s launch has been a rocky one. According to Coindesk, the briskly hyped launch in April 2021 was followed almost immediately by problems maintaining its intended 1:1 peg with the dollar. If you want a spot of colour, the Fei team claims their inspiration was the rai, aka fei – the stone currency used in ancient times on the Yap islands in Micronesia.
