  • Australian dollars (AUD)
  • Canadian dollars (CAD)
  • Euros (EUR)

When you load funds on the card and move them into one of the supported currency wallets, you can lock them in at the current exchange rate. When you spend or withdraw cash in a currency loaded on the card, you’ll also avoid the usual 3% foreign transaction fee.

Available to existing BankSA customers, the Global Currency card doesn’t charge a card issue fee or loading fee when you’re transferring money from another BankSA account. Also, there are no fees when you withdraw cash from any of the 50,000 Global ATM Alliance partner ATMs. However, you will be charged withdrawal fees when getting cash from a non-partnered ATM.

The Global Currency card also comes with an emergency additional card that you can use if your main card is lost, stolen or damaged while you’re travelling.

You can view a full list of the pop-up ATM locations on the BankSA website.

Global ATM Alliance

If you have a BankSA debit card, credit card or the Global Currency travel card, you can enjoy fee-free ATM withdrawals when you’re overseas through the Global ATM Alliance. This partnership gives you access to ATMs around the world, with alliance members including Westpac NZ, Deutsche Bank of Germany, Barclays Bank in the UK, Scotiabank of Canada and Bank of Nanjing, China.

When compared to using a BankSA card at a non-partnered overseas ATM, withdrawing money from one of these partners could save you a $5 fee. Note that other fees and charges (such as currency conversion costs or cash advance fees) may still apply when you’re withdrawing cash overseas.

BankSA travel insurance options

If you have an eligible BankSA credit card, such as the Vertigo Platinum or Amplify Signature, you can take advantage of complimentary international travel insurance when you use the card to pay for at least $500 of your travel costs before you go away. This cover also applies to your spouse or dependent children when they are travelling with you and meet the eligibility requirements. BankSA also offers comprehensive, standalone travel insurance policies that you can purchase for overseas and domestic trips, with four different options available, depending on the type of cover you want.
