Star Travel Insurance review
Travelling is one of life’s great joys. It lets you see new places, meet new people and experience the best the world has to offer. However, travel can sometimes also be a hugely stressful and costly experience. When things go wrong, even the most well-organised holiday plans can quickly be turned upside down and you can find yourself significantly out of pocket.
Unfortunately, the list of potential problems you face on a holiday is quite extensive. Unexpected circumstances, for example a serious illness or the death of a family member, may force you to cut your trip short. Airlines can misplace or lose your luggage, thieves can make off with your credit cards and personal belongings, and delayed flights can lead to missed connections, additional expenses and a whole lot of stress.
With all these problems in mind, it quickly becomes clear just why travel insurance is such a good idea. It provides essential financial protection for all of the risks you face while travelling, from overseas medical emergencies to cancellation fees and lost deposits. Taking out cover is an essential part of booking any holiday, no matter whether you’re travelling domestically or overseas, as it offers the peace of mind you need to set out and explore the world.

With a pan-India presence, the Star Health Insurance Company has built a reputation as a trusted and respected provider of insurance. Star Travel Insurance Policy Options
Star Travel Insurance offers four cover options to suit the needs of different travellers:
This plan is designed to cover individuals who are travelling for leisure, business, study or even employment, with any Indian resident over six months of age and planning overseas travel eligible.
This policy includes cover for overseas emergency medical expenses, emergency medical repatriation if required, as well as for the repatriation of mortal remains.
In addition, emergency dental expenses are covered, as is compensation if you suffer an accidental injury. Other cover features include:
- loss of your checked in baggage
- replacement costs for a new passport if yours is lost or stolen
- flight delays
- missed departures and connections
- hijack distress
- emergency purchases as a result of luggage delays
- cancellation fees incurred as a result of the injury or death of a family member
- legal liability.
Medical testing is typically not required to take out this cover, though people above 65 years or with an adverse medical history may have to undergo some testing.
A Family Insurance Plan from Star Travel Insurance provides cover for an insured person, their spouse, and two dependent children under the age of 18. Cover is available for overseas travel by Indian residents aged between six months and 60 years.
A maximum of two additional children can be added to the policy by paying a 25% additional premium per child.
Cover provided under this policy is the same as that offered under an Individual Plan, including protection for everything from overseas emergency medical expenses to the replacement cost for lost passports.
This Star Travel Insurance policy is designed for students who are planning on pursuing their studies abroad. It contains a wide range of coverage to ensure each student has the protection they need, even in serious or dire situations.
This includes cover for emergency medical expenses, emergency medical transport back to India, repatriation of mortal remains, as well as emergency dental expenses following an accident.
Travel-related benefits include cover for injuries caused by accidents and for the loss or damage of checked-in baggage. If the student is hospitalised, the policy will provide cover for the expense of one family member to travel overseas to visit them.
If a family member dies or the student otherwise has to return home due to illness, the cost of this will be covered.
Finally, the Student Plan provides cover for claims relating to legal liability, as well as for the cost of a bail bond following false arrest or wrongful detention.
As the increasingly global business world requires an increasing number of businesses to send their employees overseas for work purposes, Star Travel Insurance’s Corporate Travel Plan is designed to provide cover for business travellers.
All corporate executives who are Indian residents, 18 years or older and travelling abroad for business can take out this policy. It includes cover for emergency medical expenses and repatriation, emergency dental expenses and repatriation of mortal remains. Compensation is offered for accidental injuries, and for the loss of any checked-in baggage. Other cover features include:
- new passport expenses
- expenses incurred as a result of luggage delays
- flight delays
- accommodation and travel expenses resulting from missed departures or connections
- hijack distress
- legal liability for third-party injury or property damage
- costs for sending a substitute employee if the insured employee suffers a covered sickness or accidental injury.
