  • Overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses. If you fall ill or become injured overseas, OverSixty Travel Insurance can cover your medical, hospital, ambulance and surgical costs. Cover is also included for emergency dental expenses.
  • Accidental death. OverSixty Travel Insurance can pay a lump-sum benefit to your estate if you die as a result of injuries suffered during your trip.
  • Permanent disability. A lump-sum benefit is available if you become totally and permanently disabled due to an injury you suffer during your trip.
  • Cancellation fees and lost deposits. When circumstances outside your control force you to cancel or curtail your trip, you can be covered for cancellation fees and prepaid deposits for travel and accommodation that you are unable to recover.
  • Additional expenses. This benefit provides cover for additional accommodation and travel expenses when your doctor declares you medically unfit to continue your journey. You may also be reimbursed if you are forced to cut short your trip to return to Australia on medical advice, as well as for costs involved in resuming your journey following the death of a relative.
  • Travel delay expenses. If your journey is delayed by at least six hours due to circumstances outside your control, OverSixty Travel Insurance is able to cover your additional meals and accommodation expenses.
  • Alternative transport expenses. This benefit provides financial protection when your scheduled transport is cancelled, delayed or diverted and you need to get to a special event (such as a wedding, funeral or conference) by a certain time.
  • Return airfare. This benefit covers your airfare when you are required to be transported back to Australia for medical reasons.
  • Luggage and personal effects. This benefit covers the cost of repairing or replacing your luggage or personal belongings if they are lost, stolen or damaged during your trip.

  • Travel documents, transaction cards and travellers cheques. If your travel documents, passport, transaction cards or traveller’s cheques are lost, stolen or destroyed during your journey, your travel insurance can cover the cost of their replacement.
  • Theft of cash. Up to $250 is provided for the theft of cash from your person.
  • Rental vehicle insurance excess. This benefit provides cover if your rental vehicle is crashed, damaged or stolen and the rental company charges an insurance excess.
  • Personal liability. Up to $2.5 million of personal liability cover is available if you cause bodily injury to someone else or damage their property.
  • Domestic pets. Cover is available for additional boarding kennel or cattery expenses for your pet if your return home is delayed by circumstances beyond your control.

OverSixty Travel Insurance and pre-existing medical conditions

OverSixty Travel Insurance policies are only designed to cover overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses that arise due to an unforeseen event. As a result, you’ll only be covered for your pre-existing medical condition if the insurer expressly agrees to cover it.

The insurer might not provide medical or hospital cover for some medical conditions and circumstances, including:

  • If you’ve had an organ transplant or are waiting to have one
  • If you’ve been given a terminal prognosis and are expected to live for less than 24 months
  • If you require home oxygen therapy or oxygen for the journey
  • If you have AIDS
  • If you suffer from chronic renal failure that is treated by haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis

If you suffer from any of the above conditions, you’ll still be able to obtain cover under OverSixty’s Non-Medical plan. However, you won’t be able to claim under the cancellation fees and lost deposits or additional expenses sections of your policy for any expenses that relate to your pre-existing condition.

If you have a condition that is undiagnosed or awaiting the attention of a specialist, no cover is available. However, there are some pre-existing conditions that are automatically covered without the need to pay an extra premium, including asthma, celiac disease and hay fever. Read the product disclosure statement (PDS) for a full list of covered conditions.

OverSixty Travel Insurance claims

If you’d like to make a claim under your policy, notify the insurer as soon as possible by filling out a claim form (available from travelclaims.com.au) and sending it to the insurer or by phoning the contact number shown on the PDS.

It’s also essential that you provide any information and documentation that Allianz Global Assistance requests in order to process your claim. This could include medical reports, police reports, valuations, receipts and proof of ownership. Failing to supply the requested evidence in a reasonable time frame could lead to your claim being reduced or rejected.

      Hi Fred,

      Thank you for your question.

Please note finder.com.au is a comparison and information service and not actually Oversixty Travel Insurance.

Most travel insurance brands won’t allow you to take out cover more than one year in advance. However, once you have a cover, depending on the policy conditions, you will be covered for your prepaid travel expense.

      All the best,
      Zubair
