Important matters concerning your policy

When you enter into an agreement with an insurer, both parties in the agreement have certain rights and responsibilities. In order to apply for a policy, you will need to be an Australian resident and purchase your policy before starting your trip. Another requirement is that your journey begins and finishes here in Australia.

A 14-day cooling-off period applies to cover, meaning that you can cancel your cover within 14 days of receiving your certificate of insurance. If you do so, you’ll be refunded any premiums you may have paid.

It’s also important that you fulfil your duty of disclosure when applying for cover. This duty requires you to be completely honest and detailed when you answer questions relating to your insurance application. It’s up to you to furnish your insurer with any information that may influence their decision of the type of cover they will offer you. Breaching your duty may result in your policy being cancelled or your claim amount being reduced.
