Package: Sydney to Melbourne from $317 (flights + 2 nights)
When it comes to last minute deals, Expedia has the answer with a cheap trip from Sydney to Melbourne for this weekend for just $317.
This includes flights on Virgin Australia departing Saturday (21 October) and returning Monday evening. So yeah, you'll have to take Monday off.
Accommodation is at the ibis Melbourne, which is in the heart of the CBD making all things central. There's a limited number of tickets left, so strike while the iron is hot.
Package: Melbourne to Brisbane for $520 (flights + 2 nights)
Lastminute is specialists in last minute travel and as such has a flights and nights package to Brisbane that won't set you back more than $520 per person.
You'll have to search for this one in its "holidays" tab and nominating your departure and arrival locations (Melbourne and Brisbane, respectively) as well as Friday to Sunday travel dates.
Scroll past some of the more luxurious options and you'll find a 2 night package, staying at The Point Brisbane Hotel. Flights depart on Friday morning and return Sunday morning on Tigerair. You can fly out a little later on both days for a fee.

Sydney is having a showstopping week with the famous Sculptures by the Sea festival launching this weekend. Suffice to say it's not too late to be one of the first to gaze upon these marvels and if you're in Brisbane you can get here and stay here for the weekend for $552.
Through Skyscanner we found flights departing Brisbane on Friday evening and returning Sunday night for $314 on Virgin Australia.
The grand total? $552 per person - and seeing the sculptures is absolutely free.
