Save up to 40% when you fly budget instead of full-service.

The new year sales just keep coming... or should I say they just keep continuing? A week after it ended, AirAsia has decided to reprise its New Year sale giving eager travellers a second chance to snap up sale flights.

Similar to its previous sale, flights start from $282 return on journeys across the pond to New Zealand from Sydney.

Being on its second wind, many of the fares have dropped, likely in a bid to sell those last seats. For example, Perth to Bali flights were $315 return, now $301 return and Sydney to Ho Chi Minh City were $501 return, now $499 return.

Eligible travel dates are almost exactly the same, ranging from 1 February - 20 March (same as before) and 15 April - 15 June (previously, 10 April - 20 June), so you're practically looking at the same sale only slightly cheaper.

This sale ends on 28 January 2018 and can be booked through Flight Centre for the above mentioned prices.

How good are these fares?

Price: Compared to its last sale, these AirAsia flights one-up them by a few dollars. Still, every cent does count when you're on holiday. Compared to other budget airlines, they're a tad more expensive than Jetstar's current sale which features Perth to Bali flights from $218 return for similar dates, for example. However, that sale ends midnight 17 January, so you've not much time to catch the last of the flights.

Compared to full-service airlines, AirAsia can save you up to 40% off fares. This, at the expense of checked-luggage and in-flight meals and entertainment, which you'll be charged extra for should you require them. Qantas, for example, is hosting a New Year sale featuring Christchurch to Sydney flights at $458 return, as opposed to $282 on sale here.

Weather: The best time to travel changes per destination in Asia with Bali at its best in April-June and September-October and Phuket in January-April. With such a wide breadth of dates available to book here, you'll likely find flights during pleasant weather conditions.
