Could this be the first good video game movie?

Lara Croft is returning to the big screen yet again next year in the upcoming Tomb Raider, and today we get our first glimpse of what it's going to look like in the form of a short teaser clip and an official movie poster.

As you can see in the clip above, actress Alicia Vikander is really channelling the Lara of the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot game on which the movie is based. She's definitely got the look down. She's got her bow and it looks like she'll be enduring all the same brutal knocks that the game so revelled in.

Video game movies are rarely anything more than passable, and previous Tomb Raider films haven't changed that, but we're still excited to see if this flick can be the one to buck that trend. With the likes of Walton Goggins (Justified, The Shield) and Daniel Wu (Into the Badlands) on board, there's at least a chance of it coming together into something worth watching.

Tomb Raider is set for theatrical release on 16 March 2018.

In other gaming heroine news, we reviewed Metroid: Samus Returns and loved it, and The Powerpuff Girls are coming to LEGO Dimensions.
