Another budget-friendly route to Queensland is coming our way.

Tigerair has announced it's commencing direct flights between Gold Coast and Hobart from 7 December 2017. And, in true Tigerair fashion, it's celebrating by offering tickets for $10 a pop. This is on the first two flights, both ways.

The sale launched midday today. You can snatch them up on Flight Centre, though you'll need to be quick as there are only 200 seats on offer.

When launched, the new Hobart-Gold Coast route will operate four times weekly with return services on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

They're timed to allow for a quick domestic getaway (more from Hobart than from Gold Coast, to be honest) departing Hobart at 8:50am and arriving in the Gold Coast by 10:20am.

The return leg departs Gold Coast at 10:50am and arrives in Hobart at 2:30pm.

They're priced starting from $135 each way, according to the Tigerair website which has flights already on sale.

This is the first time an Australian airline, let alone a budget airline, has travelled between Hobart and Gold Coast direct and is aimed at encouraging more interstate travel between the two cities in general, but perhaps more particularly, to faciliate travel to and from Gold Coast during the Commonwealth Games next year.

"Our great value fares grow and stimulate air travel in this country. These new flights launching in December provide a welcome boost for tourism in both cities, covering the upcoming peak summer holiday travel period and the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in April," said Tigerair acting CEO, Peter Wilson.

In addition to this new service, Tigerair has also announced four additional weekly services between Hobart and Melbourne to meet popular demand. These also commence on 7 December 2017.
