Thredbo is home to some of the best ski slopes in Australia, including the longest slopes for all levels of skier or snowboarder. If you prefer, you can roam the mountains at a more leisurely pace while snowshoeing, or just play in the snow park.
Summer sees the opening of horseback riding and walking trails, and you can enjoy the natural scenery of the mountains.
We’ve listed the best things to do in Thredbo, no matter what the season.
The top activities in Thredbo are skiing and snowboarding.
Racing down the longest slopes in Australia is a popular pastime during winter, be it for a whole week or just a weekend trip.
Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, there are trails to suit your level.
Ditch the skis and boards and strap on some snowshoes to experience Mount Kosciuszko in a unique way.
Enjoy amazing views and landmarks as you tramp around the lower areas, or for more of a challenge, trek to the top of the mountain.
During summer the ski tracks turn into the longest mountain bike trails in Australia, with 25 kilometres of epic trails to cover.
Mountain bikers have access to the chair lift between 9:30am and 4pm daily and a rental store is available. Bikes can be taken on the chairlift. You can also access valley trails for an easier ride.
In winter snow biking is available. This is only available during the school holiday period and requires appropriate bikes, which are available to rent.
Bring the family, and your inner child, to play in the Snow Play Park. Do whatever your heart desires; build a snowman, try some tobogganing or tubing, or make a snow angel.
You can bring your own toboggans, or hire them on site.
For family fun and thrill seekers alike, take a ride down the Thredbo Bobsled. The 700-metre track twists and turns, but the carts have a brake so you can control the speed.
You decide whether to race down full throttle, or take a more casual ride and enjoy the views.
Learn to ride a horse and explore the trails of the region on horseback with guided tours.
Numerous horseriding tour companies operate out of Thredbo, offering rides for all skill levels through various parts of the valley.
Horseriding is available in summer as well as winter and many companies include introductory lessons to prepare you for your ride.
During summer, walking trails such as the Thredbo Valley Track and Dead Horse Gap Track, which rises 600 metres above the valley floor, become exposed.
Enjoy some wonderful views of New South Wales and Victoria while you follow the tracks through Kosciuszko National Park.
The Thredbo River offers some of the best fishing in the region, and it’s possible to find trout weighing over 4 kilograms.
Fly fishing in the rapids is popular in spring as the winter snow defrosts. Explore the waters on your own or hire a guide to show you the best spots.
