Review of the Qantas American Express Business credit card

The Qantas American Express Business credit card is designed to help businesses earn frequent flyer points on corporate expenses. Plus, you can maximise your points and monitor your employee spending by requesting additional cards to link to the one account. With an annual fee of $160, you can also enjoy software accounting systems to track business expenses, complimentary insurance covers and up to 55 interest-free days.

Benefits and features of the Qantas American Express Business credit card

  • Rewards. You will earn 2 Qantas Points per $1 spent on purchases with selected Qantas services in Australia and 1 Qantas Point per $1 on other eligible purchases. Utilities, insurance providers (with the exception of American Express) and government bodies will earn 0.5 points for every $1 spent. Your points will be transferred to your Qantas account each month, which you can then redeem for Award flights with Qantas and its partners or rewards from the Qantas Frequent Flyer store.
  • Monitor expenditure. Take advantage of software accounting systems such as Quicken, MYOB and Microsoft Excel to download your statements and transaction details to keep track of your business expenses easily.
  • Supplementary cards. You can request up to 99 additional cards to link to the single account at no additional cost. This can help you manage your employees’ spending and give you better visibility of your team’s expenses.
  • Online fraud protection guarantee. You can shop online with peace of mind knowing that you won’t be held responsible for any unauthorised transactions thanks to the Online Fraud Protection Guarantee.
  • Interest-free days. If you pay your balance in full, you can take advantage of up to 55 interest-free days on purchases. Please note that this excludes cash advances and balance transfers.
  • Travel inconvenience cover. If you meet the eligibility requirements, you will be covered for flight delays, denied flight boarding, missed connections or delayed luggage when you purchase your trip on your card.

Fees and rates of the Qantas American Express Business credit card

  • Annual fee. The annual fee for this card is $160.
  • Late payment fee. If you don’t meet the minimum repayment by the due date, you’ll be charged a late payment fee of $30.
  • Foreign transaction fee. If you use your card to make a foreign transaction overseas or while online shopping, you’ll be charged 3% of the converted amount.

How to apply for the Qantas American Express Business credit card

If you’ve compared your options and decided the Qantas Amex Business credit card is right for you, make sure that you’ve met the eligibility requirements and organised the following information before you apply:

Eligibility criteria

  • Age. Cardholders must be at least 18 years old to apply.
  • Residential status. You must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Income. Applicants must have a personal gross pre-tax annual income of $24,000.
  • Credit history. You need to have a good credit history with no evidence of bad debt or payment defaults.

Required information and documents

  • Personal details. You will need to provide personal info including your full name, contact number and email address.
  • Business information. You will need to include your business name and annual turnover in the application.
  • Qantas frequent flyer details. If you’re already a frequent flyer, make sure to include your Qantas Frequent Flyer number to link your card to your existing account.

    I would like to know if I get automatic Travel Insurance. I purchased my International flight using my earth platinum American Express card. I was 80 when I purchased the ticket but turned 81 on 10/7/16.
    Please let me know what I am covered for.

      Thanks for your question.

      One of the eligibility criteria to receive the Westpac Earth Platinum credit card complimentary insurance cover is that “you are not over 80 years of age when you first become eligible for the cover by meeting the other conditions listed on the PDF file I sent you. You can directly contact QBE to verify if you are still covered, given your situation.
