Take a free trip to lovely Tamriel with The Elder Scrolls Online’s Free Play event

Matt Sayer 30 November 2017 NEWS

For the tantalising price of free, it's worth checking out the closest thing to a Skyrim sequel we'll see for some time.

Hungry for some hacking and slashing? Keen to kick back with a friendly Khajiit or two? Lusting for shiny loot? Then you'll probably want to clear your calendar because the adventure-packed MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online is going completely free for the next week on PS4 and PC.

From Friday 1 December to Friday 7 December, you can jump into the world of Tamriel and explore its many vibrant locales without restriction, even scoring 500 Crowns for spending on companions and bonuses in the in-game store. And thanks to the rejigging of the game a little while back, the world of The Elder Scrolls Online scales with you, allowing you to venture off in any direction and be capable of surviving the trials that await there.

As is common in such events, any progress you make during the free week will be attached to your account, so if you decide to purchase the game down the track, you'll be able to pick up right where you left off, with all your loot and levels intact.

Two things to keep in mind, though. PS4 players will need to have an active PlayStation Plus subscription in order to participate in the free event, and both PC and PS4 owners will need to prepare themselves for a whopping 80GB download before they can start slicing and dicing their way through ESO's sprawling world.
