The Body Shop Hemp Shower Oil next to plant

Soothe dry skin with this hydrating oil that's perfect for those prone to sensitivity.

As we trade in our track pants and jeans for dresses and shorts, many of us will receive an unwanted parting gift from winter: dry, scaly skin. While seasonal changes often arrive with a change in skin texture, scaly patches are especially irritating and uncomfortable, meaning you'll want to get rid of them sooner rather than later.

While a heavy duty moisturiser can work wonders, switching out your soap for a hydrating alternative is the best way to banish your dry skin woes.

Having already tried several products from The Body Shop's Hemp range in the past, I decided to check out another product from the line to help me ditch the lizard-like patches for good.

The quick verdict

Why is it good? This hydrating oil helps to relieve very dry skin without causing irritation.

How much is it? $30 for 250mL.

Where to buy it: The Body Shop online.

First impressions

With hemp beauty products rising in popularity due to their ability to hydrate skin without clogging pores, I had high hopes for the Hemp Hydrating & Protecting Shower Oil from the moment it landed on my desk. Thankfully, I was not disappointed.

Hand holding The Body Shop Hemp Shower Oil

Arriving as a clear oil, the formula transforms into more of a foam as you lather it, making it both non-greasy and easy to use. It's also incredibly gentle on the skin and cleanses it thoroughly without drying it out, unlike many other body washes on the market.

You can notice the difference almost immediately after you've showered, as skin is left feeling hydrated and smooth, rather than stripped of moisture. After using it for over a week in tandem with The Body Shop's Hemp Body Moisture Protector, I noticed that the scaly patches on my legs had all but disappeared.

The one downside to the product though is the smell, which definitely takes some getting used to. While it isn't overly offensive, it's not a scent that I would personally choose, especially as it does linger on the skin for quite some time after you've showered.

Verdict

As someone who often finds soaps and body washes to be both drying and irritating, I really love this product. Though the scent is slightly off-putting, I find myself coming back to it whenever my skin is feeling worse for wear.

The fact that it turns into an easy-to-lather foam is also great, as it means that a little bit goes quite a long way. Overall, it leaves my skin feeling incredibly clean and refreshed without causing any sensitivities, making it a winner in my book.

Affordability

Priced at $30 for a 250mL bottle, the Hemp Shower Oil is more than I would typically pay for a body wash. However, a small amount goes a long way, making it good value for money. On top of that, I've found it to be better suited for my dry, sensitive skin than many other products on the market, making it worth the spend.

If you don't suffer from overly dry skin though, or are just looking for something a little more affordable, The Body Shop has plenty of shower gels and creams available for under $15.

Where to buy

All of The Body Shop's products are exclusive, meaning that you can only shop them in-store or online at The Body Shop.
