The block episode 10 recap title card

Which golden couple is now looking tarnished?

On last night’s episode, usually ahead-of-the-class couple Kim and Chris showed they aren’t immune to the trials and tribulations of The Block. If there was something that could have delayed the couple, it happened to them. From having to rip up their screed to arguments between Foreman Keith and their builder over their bathroom’s waterproofing, the golden couple looked decidedly tarnished.

Meanwhile, it was more of the same for Julia and Sasha, with Julia’s indecision testing the limits of Sasha’s patience. After some back-and-forth over tiles, Sasha was finally able to get back to The Block having made a decision for the couple, only to find Julia had been whisked away for drinks with Foreman Keith and Foreman Dan. Cue some serious blockhead jealousy.

Andy and Ben continued to get on contestant Dan’s nerves, which is proving to be an incredibly easy task. The pair had been dragging their feet on paying Dan for his vault door. Dan and the boys’ generation gap was painfully evident, with Dan demanding the money in his account by 5PM and the boys positing (quite rightly) that the hapless Baby Boomer doesn’t understand the world of internet banking. After some time spent winding Dan up, the pair finally made their payment, only to have it bounce back. Andy and Ben decided they’d keep this particular bit of information to themselves, and see how long it took Dan and Carleen to notice. Dan’s nerves may survive the renovation, but they’re reaching a critical limit with Andy and Ben’s hijinks.

It wasn’t all fun and games for the boys, however. Foreman Keith delivered the news that Andy and Ben would have to rip up the sheeting on their bathroom floor and start over with more battens to avoid a possible crack in their tiling. Even after pulling up their sheeting to appease Keith, it turned out the pair used the wrong adhesive. They had to start the job a third time.

In addition to not being able to take a joke, Carleen and Dan continue to not be able to take criticism. The couple were still reeling from negative comments from the judges, so they called in buyer’s agent Greville Pabst to get an outside opinion. He wasn’t too keen on their guest bedroom wall colour, commenting that buyers may see it as too dark and claustrophobic. He also advised they would be better to have larger bedrooms. The couple then called in an antiques dealer from Geelong to estimate the price they could get for the pieces found in their vault. The dealer advised them not to sell, but to keep the pieces in the apartment.

Karlie and Will weren’t left out of the drama. Their vanity arrived, and Karlie was shocked to find it was a double-drawer vanity rather than the four-drawer unit she thought she had requested. The footage doesn’t lie, however, and a review of her order showed Karlie had indeed inadvertently ordered a double-drawer vanity rather than the double-level vanity she wanted. She was able to sort a replacement, but it may not arrive before the room reveal.

Finally, Foreman Dan brought back the fan favourite Chump Jacket, which is awarded to the couple who get the lowest score at room reveal. As a contestant, Foreman Dan set the record as a 12-time Chump Jacket recipient. Who will wear the Chump Jacket next week? All will soon be revealed.
