The Block recap: Bathrooms bring judges close to blows (11.09.2016)

We had our first perfect 10 from one of the judges, but another couple polarised the judges' opinions.

It was finally time for the main bathroom reveals last night on The Block, and in spite of hitting a few minor obstacles the contestants all managed to finish. But would their work stand up to the judges’ scrutiny?

First up were Karlie and Will, who weren’t entirely happy with their work after inadvertently ordering the wrong drawers for their vanity. It appeared the judges weren’t counting drawers, however, as they heaped praise on the couple. Shaynna called the bathroom “glamorous”, while Neale liked the combination of panelling and tile and the simple colour palette. Shaynna did find fault, though, with the couple’s execution.

Next were a very nervous Carleen and Dan, who have finished at the bottom of the scoreboard the last two weeks and were absolutely savaged by the judges last week. The pair had nothing to worry about this week, even eliciting a “wow” from Neale. All the judges were impressed with the styling and look of the bathroom. The only real bit of criticism was a bit of confusion over the couple’s decision to put the light switch in the hallway rather than inside the bathroom.

The boys from Geelong were next up, and with Andy and Ben’s distinct lack of a toilet, it was going to be interesting to hear the judges' take on their bathroom. Perhaps the judges believe toilets to be particularly juvenile, because Darren and Shaynna both remarked on how grown up the bathroom felt. Neale liked the artwork referencing the building’s heritage.

Finally, Darren (perhaps feeling the pain of a few too many coffees) noticed the lack of toilet. The realisation left the judges a bit bemused, and concerned that Andy and Ben’s apartment will have the most bedrooms and least bathrooms of any of the contestants.

Julia and Sasha were next up, having lived through their marathon tile selection process and ongoing arguments over mirror and light placement. The judges concurred that the girls’ bathroom was “glamorous”, and Neale commented that Sasha and Julia had gotten their mojo back after a down week last week. Shaynna and Darren also decided to hop in the double shower, and even coaxed Neale to sit in between them to illustrate its size. The only minor criticism was over the mirror being a bit too high.

Finally, Kim and Chris were up following a week from hell that saw drama at every turn. The drama didn’t let up, as Darren and Neale disagreed sharply about the room. Host Scott Cam claimed the two almost came to blows, though this might have been a bit of hyperbole. Shaynna and Darren seemed to feel the room was too much of a mish-mash, but Neale was strident in his defence of the couple.

Alas, Neale’s defence didn’t save Kim and Chris from the bottom of the ladder this week. While Carleen and Dan celebrated a much-needed win, Kim and Chris were left wearing the Chump Jacket.

Hi, can you tell me what brand and model tapware is used in Dan & Carleen’s bathroom?

      Hi Tj,

      Thank you for your comment.

Unfortunately, the exact brand is not mentioned on the show and Carleen and Dan’s tapware doesn’t seem to be The Block Shop. All bathrooms on The Block are done through Reece who is one of the shows major sponsors.
