The Beauty Shake review: The collagen enhancing, weight loss supporting daily shake you need to try.

Posted: 6 March 2019 9:32 am News

The Beauty Shake is an Australia-based company, led by Dr Jaroslav Blazek who has developed a new rich chocolate flavoured shake that claims to improve collagen levels while also promoting weight loss. We tried out the shake and here's our honest review.

The Beauty Shake contains marine collagen peptides from the skin of sustainably farmed fish, resulting in a highly effective and easily absorbed form of collagen. Not only does the shake boost collagen and promote weight loss, it's also an excellent source of fibre, supports digestive gut health, reduces the visibility of wrinkles and keep you fuller for longer. It contains a variety of proteins and over 10g per serve of a dietary fibre blend designed to aid weight loss without feeling hungry. It has zero added sugar and integrates very well into keto and low-carb diets.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body and is found in nearly every tissue, including your muscles, bones, tendons and skin. Therefore, getting enough of it is crucial for your wellbeing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Most people would associate collagen with a youthful face and they wouldn't be wrong. Collagen provides firmness, integrity and elasticity to your skin while also replacing dead skin cells. Collagen levels in your body naturally deteriorate with age which in turn reduces the hydration of your skin and causes wrinkles to form. There are obviously other factors that contribute to skin ageing such as genes, sun exposure, hormones, diet, smoking and pollution. Not only does collagen consumption benefit your skin, it also enhances weight loss, improves skin tone, reduces cellulite, is good for your joints and enhances muscle growth and recovery.

The two most common sources of collagen are bovine (from beef) and marine (from fish). Marine collagen is more premium and more often than not it comes with a greater price tag. Generally bovine collagen is used in men's products while marine collagen is often used in women's products.

As someone who loves to try any new fitness trend or protein shake I was excited to try The Beauty Shake. I've been consuming the rich chocolate shake every morning for 6 weeks now (I may have missed a few weekends) with 250ml of almond milk. The shake was actually really tasty and blended with ice it kept me full until lunchtime. The consistency of the shake is not grainy like some protein shakes and the flavour is not too sweet, which often puts me off other shakes. Each shake has 20g of protein, 10g of dietary fibre, 3,500mg of marine collagen and the best bit is, it's low in calories at only 120 per shake. Alternatively the powder can be added to low-fat yoghurt and fruit then blended with ice to make a smoothie.

One thing I actually noticed while taking the shake was that my nails got stronger. Normally my nails chip on the ends and can't grow past a certain length, but I think the increase in collagen through drinking the shakes almost certainly helped to strengthen my nails!

Another noticeable effect was on my skin. I've long suffered with acne-prone skin, pigmentation and enlarged pores and I regularly apply collagen-boosting creams but have never noticed much of a difference. I'm not sure how much of a placebo effect the shake had on my view but I'm confident in saying that the increase in collagen through the shake gave my skin a smoother finish. Skin smoothness is something that takes time to improve but I feel that after six weeks I can see a real difference.

To be honest, I can't say the shake did too much for my weight as I live a mostly healthy lifestyle with well-balanced meals and daily exercise sessions.

The rich chocolate 750g bag is available for $59.90 through The Beauty Shake website. However, The Beauty Shake is also promising a superberry and a vanilla flavour coming soon. Each 750g bag will provide you with 20 servings, meaning that each shake costs you $3. I don't think this is too pricey considering my morning coffee can sometimes cost $4.50 and doesn't aid in making my skin look more youthful!

Where can you buy it?

You can order directly from The Beauty Shake but be aware there's a flat fee delivery cost of $9 when shipped within Australia which is a little steep in my opinion. However, if you purchase two or more items the postage fee is waived. I would suggest buying 2 bags at a time to waive the delivery fee and it means you don't run out of product after 20 days. Deliveries take between two and seven business days to arrive at your door. The Beauty Shake also has a few stockists around NSW and ACT.
