Get suckered in by a gaming classic, or drawn into the horrors of war in January’s Playstation Plus free games lineup.

You can’t accuse Sony of playing it safe with its PlayStation Plus free games offerings. Its Christmas games lineup, comprised of independent titles will shortly be replaced by a gaming classic, as well as a more challenging war game than the usual explosive action you might expect.

Firstly, gamers will be able to enjoy the remastered version of LucasArt’s classic Day Of The Tentacle. It’s a 1993 game reimagined for 2016 with updated visuals but the same fine (if somewhat perplexing) sense of both mystery and humour. You could easily look up a guide to finish it rapidly what with the multiple decades it’s been available, but you’d be robbing yourself of one of gaming’s timeless gems if you do so.

Rather more serious than Day of the Tentacle is PlayStation Plus’ other headline PS4 title, This War Of Mine: The Little Ones. War games are a common staple of the modern gaming experience thanks to blockbuster AAA games such as Battlefield or Call of Duty, but This War Of Mine: The Little Ones takes a more mature and less sensationalistic approach, casting you as a rather grim survivor on a modern battlefield, and facing the harsh choices you must make in order to survive.

For PS Vita owners, there’s The Swindle:

Also for PS Vita is Titan Souls, which is perhaps best described as the lovechild of The Legend Of Zelda and Shadow of the Colossus, albeit with a single arrow as your weapon:

PS Vita owners will also be able to kick back with puzzle game Azkend 2:

For PS3 players, we can expect to see arcade racer BlazeRush on offer:

As with all PlayStation Plus offers, the free games are only available to add to your library in the month in which they're made free, but once you've done so, you're able to download and play them for as long as you maintain your PlayStation Plus subscription.
