Telstra tempts network switchers with extra contract data

Telstra’s latest update to its BYO Go Mobile plans cuts access prices and offers a very tasty inducement to switch networks.

Telstra’s reputation has been built on being a premium brand with premium pricing to suit, but its latest deal for customers willing to sign up to a 12 month contract plan has significant value for those looking for a budget deal.

Telstra has cut a straight $10 per month off the cost of its BYO Mobile Go Mobile S, M and L plans, but it’s also offering significant inducements for customers switching from other networks to swap to Telstra if they do so online.

There’s no bonus on the low end S plan, but customers opting for the M plan get an additional 4.5GB of data per month for the life of the plan for a total of 7GB per month. 7GB per month is the new baseline for the L plan, where you’ll score an additional 2GB of data per month for a total of 9GB per month for the life of the plan. These are online only deals, so you won’t get the bonus data if you sign up with Telstra in a store.

Here is how the new plans stack up against the older Go Mobile offerings:

Telstra BYO Go Mobile phone plans November 2015
Plan NameMonthly CostIncluded DataIncluded CallsIncluded TextsMinimum 12 month cost
S (Old)$35500MB$300Unlimited$420

$1,000Unlimited$480
L (Old)$706GBUnlimitedUnlimited$840

All these plans assume that you've already got your own phone to bring to the network. Telstra hasn't changed the pricing on its 24 month phone bundle contracts at this point.
