Telstra adds night-time bonus data to Freedom Plus prepaid

Alex Kidman 30 October 2015

More data to use when the sun goes down if you're a prepaid Freedom Plus customer.

Telstra’s latest offer for its prepaid mobile customers involves a data tweak to the Prepaid Freedom Plus plans. The plans now come with bonus data that will run through at least until Australia Day 2016.

If you’re on a $30 recharge you’ll get an additional 1.3GB of data to use. If your recharge amount is $40 you double your data allowance with an additional 3GB, and those on the $50 recharge tier get an extra 4GB, similarly doubling the amount on offer.

This isn’t a straight extra-data-whenever-you-feel-like-it type deal, however. Instead, the extra data is only available to you between 8pm and 8am AEDT -- ideal for night owls, less useful for people who are already at work by then.. In essence, it’s off-peak data for prepaid customers, and a very similar arrangement to the deal Boost Mobile currently runs which offers bonus data for customers, but only for use on the weekend.

You can see how Telstra’s prepaid offerings compare with others using our comprehensive comparison tool. Extra data is always welcome, but if you're going to be asleep for a fair proportion of the time when it's on offer, it may be less useful.
