All of Australia's major carriers, Qantas, Virgin Australia and Jetstar, fly to Tasmania and all often offer bargains during sales. We've seen flights going for as low as $30 each way in a good sale.
If you're flying on a budget carrier, like Jetstar, you can get fares for as low as $30-$50 each way during a sale, depending on where in Australia you're coming from. Those prices are usually available from cities like Sydney and Melbourne. Expect to pay at least double that if you're coming from further afield like Adelaide or Brisbane.
Peak season to visit Tasmania is from late spring to early autumn, so expect the highest prices to be from November to April. Since you can fly from both Sydney and Melbourne in less than two hours, Tasmania's also a popular long-weekend destination, so expect to pay more if travelling over a holiday.
The cheapest time to fly is during the winter months, from May to October, when it's cooler – but also less busy.
Whether you're flying to Hobart or Launceston, flights to Tasmania are best booked at least five to seven weeks in advance of your departure. However, often Jetstar sales offer cheap fares much further in advance and are worth taking advantage of.
You can fly to Tasmania in 75 minutes from the eastern side of Australia, but if you're coming from the west coast, it can take more than 4 hours.
