Where do you find the cheapest NBN discounts?

While you're unlikely to find one site that covers every discount on the market, here at Finder we've put together dozens of providers and all the deals they're offering.

Our Broadband Finder ™ even shows plan discounts and promotions in a green box so you can spot them easily.

You can also sort plans by price, speed, data and more using the filters provided so you can find an NBN plan that works for you.

What are the cheapest ways to get an NBN plan?

If you want to keep costs low, here's a quick list of what you should think about:

  1. Slower plans are cheaper. The slower your plan, the less you'll pay for it. Consider what the right NBN speed is for you so you're not spending more on speeds that you don't actually need.
  2. Data cap or unlimited? Unlimited data Internet plans may be normal these days, but there are a few data-capped plans which will take $5 to $10 off your monthly bill. Just make sure you won't go over the limit you choose.
  3. Deals can help, but they will expire. While discounts are good, they'll run out eventually. Consider whether your discount is for 1 month or 6. And whether you'll be happy to switch to a new plan after the discount expires, or simply pay the full price.
  4. Modems can be an extra cost. Modems can vary in price by $100 or more between providers. If you can, BYO modem to save on sign-up costs.

Are there better promos other than with Tangerine?

Although there are plenty of deals available from other providers, Tangerine has some of the best on the market.

Not only are Tangerine's 6-month discounts pretty valuable (up to $15 discount for 6 months, which adds up to a total of $90 of savings), but its ongoing prices are also on the cheaper end of our database.

As always though, this doesn't mean Tangerine is necessarily the best choice for you. Make sure to compare your options to figure out which promo will serve you best.

Are promotional deals worth it?

There is no real downside to promotional deals, so long as you're happy with the long term value.

There are 2 main kinds of deals:

  1. 6-month discounts which lower the monthly price by a fixed amount.
  2. First month free promotions that save you a single month of payments.

When considering NBN plans, it's not usually worth worrying whether a 1-month or 6-month discount is better. Instead, you should consider the total amount you save, and how much you pay overall.

Try not to let promotional deals blind you to a plan's true value since these discounts will eventually end.

A plan's regular monthly price is the most important decider of value, unless you're happy to switch providers every half a year or so.

How do I claim my Tangerine promo?

You don't have to do anything special to claim Tangerine's plan discounts since there are no promo codes involved. Simply:

  1. Pick the deal you want from Tangerine.
  2. View the eligible plan the discount is available on.
  3. Click the green "Go to site" button to claim your discount. Your 6-month discount will be automatically applied when you purchase your plan on Tangerine's website.

It's always a good idea to check the terms and conditions on Tangerine's site before you purchase too.

Is there anything I should watch out for with Tangerine's promos?

Not really. Apart from the discounts being temporary, there's not much to watch out for when it comes to Tangerine's plans.

There are no set-up fees involved with Tangerine, and you have the option to BYO modem if you already have one from your previous provider.

The only thing to keep in mind is that the discount will eventually expire, at which point you'll have to either switch plans or keep paying full price.
