No need to download the upgrade pack for Microsoft's tablet.

Owners of Microsoft's Surface tablet were already at the front of the queue when Windows 10 rolled out last month, with the ability to immediately upgrade those devices from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. But from today, if you purchase a Surface 3 or Surface Pro 3 from the Microsoft store, it comes with Windows 10 pre-installed.

While Windows 10 was always a free upgrade for Surface owners, not having to download the upgrade on your brand-new hybrid device is definitely a bonus. The Surface 3 comes with the basic Windows 10, while the Surface Pro 3 includes Windows 10 Pro. If you're not sure which version you need, check out our comprehensive guide to learn about the difference, and check out our guides to Windows 10 below for more information.

The Surface has proved one of the more successful hybrid devices, combining a tablet which can be used on its own with a keyboard for when you need to perform more serious work tasks. It also offers impressive battery life, and the fact that both hardware and software are produced by Microsoft means that it's considerably less likely to experience driver conflicts or other issues if you do upgrade it.
