Support small businesses and earn up to $50 cashback with Amex
The Shop Small initiative from American Express is back and rewarding cardholders with cashback for shopping locally.
American Express is giving its cardholders an extra reason to support local businesses with the launch of its latest Shop Small promotion this month.
This November, card members who spend $20 or more in one transaction at participating businesses will get $10 back! You can take advantage of this offer up to five times, meaning you could score up to $50 back in your account. Although this cashback potential is slightly lower than previous Shop Small promos (we’ve seen up to $100 in the past), it’s still an easy way to support your local and reward your spending.
You can only take advantage of the offer once per participating business, so you won’t be able to rack up your cashback rewards each time you spend at your local cafe or restaurant. All you need to do is register your American Express card for the Shop Small promotion by 30 November and start shopping with participating merchants.
Want to know if can get a cashback reward at your favourite local business? You can use the Shop Small map on the American Express website to search for participating businesses by retailer or location.
Not only does the Shop Small promo feed some extra cashback into your account, but you can also shop knowing that you’re supporting local businesses.
According to the Economy of Shopping Small: Keeping it in the Community Report issued by American Express, Australians are still choosing larger companies over smaller independent businesses. The report showed that just 29% of consumers claim to have increased their shopping with small businesses, compared to 37% in 2016.
The Amex report also revealed the importance of the "Boomerang Dollar". This means that the money spent with small businesses find its way back to communities through salaries to residents (27 cents) and payments to local suppliers (12 cents) as well as through donations to local charities, schools and sponsorships (3 cents). So, Shop Small is another way to encourage Aussies to spend locally.
This isn’t the first time American Express has pushed a Shop Small initiative. Over previous Shop Small promotions, 1.1 million American Express cardholders have spent $603 million with participating small businesses.
