A closer look at AMG
With AMG Super you have the option of handing the management of your funds to their investment experts, or creating your own personalised investment portfolio. Similar options to a SMSF are part of your options, such as ASX listed shares, term deposits, and managed funds. The major difference is that you are left without the burden of extra paperwork, trustee compliance and special accounting procedures. Think about what your goals and needs are and then pick between a personal super investment plan, or a pension account that gives you investment flexibility. There is even an approved MySuper fund that has been designed specifically to meet the complex needs of employers and their employees.

Through your online investment platform with AMG an expert adviser is able to track your portfolio and make changes to increase your profitability. You can also make changes yourself, as well as see your various accounts, including to your cash management hub.

You are provided with various investment options with the AMG Super that allow you to take construct a portfolio based around your needs. These include:
- Direct shares. You are permitted to select from all shares listed on the ASX with the exception of options. Certain restrictions apply, such as no more than 25% of your total holding can be invested in one stock, and 50% must be invested in the top ASX S&P 200.
- Term deposits. A variety of different term deposits are available through a number of providers. The minimum investment is $5,000, and the principal plus interest will automatically be deposited into the Call account once the term deposit matures.
- Managed funds. There is access to over 65 managed funds, all overseen by external fund managers. There are short term plans of one or two years, but you can also invest in a long term fund where the expected growth rate is 90% over the span of five years or more.
You can choose just one investment option or any combination if you wish to mitigate your risk. If you do not outline an investment choice, your money will automatically be invested into the DDH Graham Advantage Cash Fund. You can also opt for the AMG balanced investment plan, which allocates a certain percentage of your money into various investments for you. The risk level is considered to be medium to high, with the probability of a negative return decreasing the longer you choose to hold onto this plan. Note that with the AMG Super, you will pay a weekly fee of $1.25 along with $50 for any withdrawals or payments made to you as a lump sum. Administration fees will also apply, and are based on a certain percentage of your investment amounts. Accounts in excess of $750,000 will see this administration fee waived.

Easing into your pension years is easy with AMG, as they allow you to keep the same superannuation fund through your employment years and into your retirement. Your investment funds accumulate in the AMG Super account while you are working, and then simply convert over to an AMG Pension after retirement. The fees for the pension account are the same, but you will also be charged $3 for each on-going pension payment. With both the Pension and Super Accounts you have the option of adding voluntary insurance to your plan. For a competitive premium rate you can get peace of mind through death cover, total and permanent disablement cover and salary continuance cover if you are still a member of the Australian workforce.

There are two separate application forms available depending on whether you are applying for a personal Super Account or an AMG Pension account. If you already have the Super from AMG then you will not need to complete an application for the Pension Account as your money will be transferred automatically. You should also consider which options you want to add to your Super Account as some of these have separate application forms which can also be downloaded from the site. This includes the option to transfer or rollover other super accounts, an Investment Choice form, and insurance application and transfer forms. You are also given a two week cooling off period after having received confirmation of your account’s establishment. This gives you the chance to change your mind and cancel any investments made, minus the fees and costs incurred by AMG.
