A total of five stations will be deployed across Queensland.

Energy retailer Locality Planning Energy (LPE) will install the first of five high speed commercial electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Noosa, Queensland next week.

The technologically-advanced 50 kW fast chargers, developed and manufactured by Brisbane-based Tritium, will be able to charge EVs 25 times quicker than a standard home charger.

They'll also be capable of adding 50km range to an EV battery charge in just 10 minutes.

Traditional in-home wall sockets take more than six hours to achieve the same result.

The charging stations will also be the first in Australia to provide electricity, on a km-to-km basis, at a rate cheaper than traditional vehicle combustion engines.

Drivers only pay for the electricity they use to recharge their EVs, making it as cost effective as home charging.

The initial charging station will be located at the Noosa Blue Resort in Noosa Heads, with four more stations to be installed across Southeast Queensland in the future.

LPE director and CEO Damien Glanville hopes the new charging stations will encourage and accelerate the adoption of EVs across Australia, enabling greater flexibility for drivers.

"Trips between Noosa and Brisbane are now possible and trips to further cities will soon be a reality," he said.

A dedicated mobile app will allow drivers to check station availabilities, make reservations and monitor their vehicle's charging progress.

If you're thinking of making the switch to an electric vehicle or hybrid, find out the general costs associated with running an EV and exactly how much money you'll actually save on fuel and other costs.
