Don’t listen to anyone else – activewear is still a thing. This is the lazy girl’s guide to getting dressed each morning.
Here are some basic style steps to incorporate into your morning routine that will make a world of difference. (And by that we mean allow you another 30 minutes of sleep-in time!) Dressing for comfort and practicality is easy with the right guidance.Feature image: David Jones
The lazy girl’s cheat sheet:
Use these style tricks and still be the best dressed at brunch, the office and everywhere else.
1. Only buy clothes that don’t wrinkle, don't need to be ironed, or can be shoved into a bag and still come out looking a million bucks.
Shirts, pants, dresses. Be strategic when buying your clothes and ensure you’re grabbing fabrics that won’t crease and crush. Waking up with two minutes to spare and getting dressed with ease is a blessing.
2. One word: flats.
Comfy and practical, flats are the new heels, and fashion girls everywhere have caught on. Whether it's sneakers, sandals, brogues, ballet pumps or boots, flats are so in fashion and the options are endless. You'll feet will love you after a night out dancing.
3. Buy denim in bulk and then buy some more.
Jeans are your best friend in fashion. They don’t need to be ironed and they’re appropriate in almost every social situation. Cruisy boyfriend jeans for Saturday morning coffee runs and skinny black jeans for Saturday night activities. Voila!
4. Opt for neutral colours.
Bright, bold colours and prints are occasionally welcome in a lazy girl’s closet, but stick to soft tones and neutrals if you want to rest easy knowing everything will go together looking like you had a plan all along.
5. Welcome matchy-matchy outfits with open arms.
Hey, a two-piece twinset solves all your outfit prep problems from the get-go. If you see a matchy-matchy outfit while you're shopping, snap it up.
6. Rid yourself of the clothes you don’t actually wear.
Pull every piece of clothing out of your wardrobe and get serious about what you wear. Make a charity pile (or find a space where you can pack them away) and put aside the things you haven’t worn in months. A closet clearout makes it easy to find your everyday essentials.
7. Introduce silk PJs to your wardrobe.
This is a total trend right now. Buy a silk pyjama set (a light pinstripe or midnight navy makes the top of the list) that you can rock to the store by throwing a knit over the top. Long pants, shorty shorts or a silk cami slip are all approved. Chic sleepwear just became the most versatile addition to your wardrobe. #Cute.
8. Update your sporty fit kit.
OK, this one is obvious. Rocking your activewear (or athleisure, as some like to call it) 'round the weekend clock is a no brainer for lazy girl’s everywhere. From yoga to brunch, no questions asked.
9. Ensure you have a hot go-to dress (or two).
Sometimes you do need an eye-catcher to head out in, but by having one or two dresses that are guaranteed winners and ready to go, you can rest easy knowing you have a backup plan when all else fails.
10. Invest in your wear-everywhere bag.
Cut decision-making time down each day by having a bag that goes with everything. Stick to neutral tones (light blush, beige, caramel) or black. These are easy to blend in with your existing neutral colours as well as being easily matched to statement items in your wardrobe.
