Where to stream WWE events and matches in 2020
WWE is one of the biggest brands in entertainment, so it’s pretty easy to keep up with its popular shows and events.
Update: Here's how to watch Wrestlemania 36 live and free
WWE offers weekly shows like Raw and SmackDown, but also huge pay-per-view events, including the ‘big four’ - WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series, and Royal Rumble. For Australian fans of wrestling, it’s easy to keep up with both, although you will need to spend some cash to enjoy the action.
WWE on Kayo Sports
In January 2020, Kayo Sports emerged as one of the best places to watch WWE. The innovative sports streaming app has been a hit with Australian fans thanks to its broad array of exclusive viewing features, value-for-money price and breadth of live sport experiences. Each week's WWE RAW, WWE SmackDown and WWE NXT shows will be available to watch on Kayo Sports into the future.
WWE on free-to-air
Sadly, there isn’t much WWE content available on free-to-air, especially when it comes to huge pay-per-view events – after all, it’s right there in the title. However, fans can watch weekly one-hour versions of WWE Raw Thursday nights and WWE SmackDown Friday nights on 9GO! These are also available to stream online via 9Now. If you’re just a casual viewer, this may be enough to tie you over, with the occasional Main Event every now and then to keep things interesting.
Watch WWE with Foxtel and Main Event
Over at Foxtel, WWE fans can watch Raw and SmackDown live Tuesdays and Wednesdays on FOX8. As of 202o, WWE NXT has also joined the schedule. You can also stream them with Foxtel Now or catch them on demand. FOX8 is available on Foxtel Now with the Pop Pack, included with the core Essentials pack for $25/month. Besides FOX8, you also get access to showcase, The Comedy Channel, MTV, 111Funny, and Arena. You can watch on laptops or mobile/tablets, but also on Telstra TV, the Foxtel Now box, Chromecast/Airplay, and PS4.
Moreover, fans can order all the specials via Foxtel’s pay-per-view channel Main Event. The cost varies based on event, but paying for it enables you to watch in style, on your big-screen TV. Besides the live broadcast, there are also replays scheduled, so you can relive the action over and over again. You simply need to remember to order the event ahead of time, but Foxtel makes things simple, offering multiple options for subscribers eager to taste the WWE action. You can order events via the MyFoxtel app, online, through your remote, or via telephone.
Stream with WWE Network
WWE’s own streaming service, WWE Network, is very affordable considering that it also provides access to all of the brand’s live pay-per-view events. For only US$9.99/month, you can stream all special events, as well as access hours of archive content. Considering that a PPV event usually costs more than $20, a subscription to the service is a must for die-hard WWE fans. Even better - if you’re a new user, you get a one-month free trial, so you can test-drive the platform before being charged to enjoy the goods.
As far as content is concerned, subscribers can stream the big pay-per-view events - Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam, and Survivor Series – but also other brand-specific events like Hell in a Cell or Elimination Chamber. Fans also gain access to in-ring premier shows like NXT, where new Superstars amaze the WWE Universe every week; and 205 Live, where you can catch up with WWE's Cruiserweight division.
Moreover, there are thousands of hours of on-demand programming available, so there’s little chance you’ll run out of stuff to watch. The only thing you won’t get, though, is access to Raw and SmackDown live episodes. Only replays are available, about a month after the episodes originally air in the US.
On the compatibility front, WWE Network works with a wide variety of devices. You can watch on your computer or tablet/smartphone, on game consoles and media streaming players. The list of compatible devices includes XBOX One, XBOX 360, PS4, PS3, Apple TV, and Chromecast. The app also works on selected smart TVs in the US, so you should check if it’s available from the relevant smart TV download store on your TV. As for how much data streaming WWE content will burn, it’s similar to the likes of Netflix – about 1.35GB/hour at high quality.
