Check out the new TV shows and movies you can watch this week on Australian streaming services.

Netflix is playing a different, decidedly less bloody game of thrones this week with the arrival of the second season of the widely acclaimed historical drama The Crown. After exploring Queen Elizabeth II's early years as the ruling monarch in Season 1, the new season will chronicle the impact of the Suez Crisis on the Queen's reign along with the retirement of her Prime Minister Harold Macmillan following the discovery of a scandalous affair within his party.

Over on Stan, the entire five-season run of the much-loved American football drama Friday Night Lights makes its debut, followed by the 2016 documentary Chasing Asylum that takes a piercing look at the treatment of refugees and asylum seekers coming to Australia. Foxtel, meanwhile, has the goods for drama lovers of both the crime and catty variety, with the eleventh season of the Canadian detective series Murdoch Mysteries and the fourth season of home-grown reality TV show The Real Housewives of Melbourne kicking off this week.
