The Spy

Can a controversial comedian do justice to the haunting life of Israel's top Mossad spy?

The most intriguing arrival in the streaming world this week isn't necessarily the most exciting, but it is certainly worth keeping an eye on. Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen is trying his hand at something completely different to the controversial antics of Borat and The Dictator by starring in Netflix's dark drama series The Spy. Based on the real-life experiences of Israeli intelligence agent Eli Cohen, the show follows Cohen as he goes undercover among Syrian high society to obtain critical intel for Mossad, the Israeli counterpart to the CIA.

Equally dark is Stan's stand-out release for this week. The entire season of acclaimed British thriller Killing Eve makes its way to the streaming service, pitting Sandra Oh of Grey's Anatomy fame against a deadly assassin played by Jodie Comer (The White Princess). Where the show sets itself apart from your typical thriller is in the relationship between the two highly trained women, as their enmity develops into an obsession that borders on infatuation.

Not in the mood for dark drama? Then you'll want to tune into SBS On Demand for Shrill, a new comedy series created by Saturday Night Live vet Lorne Michaels and Pitch Perfect star Elizabeth Banks. The show revolves around Annie, a large young woman pursuing a career in journalism while refusing to succumb to the body-image expectations society heaps upon women young and old.

If none of those titles interests you, then check out all our top picks coming to streaming platforms this week below.
