Dastardly criminals and deadly teenage girls headline this week's biggest new releases.

I hope you took advantage of last week's lull in new releases to catch up on your watch list, because this week sees Aussie streaming services shift their content engines into high gear and close out March with a slew of exciting new TV shows and movies.

Starting with Netflix, the banner release this week has to be The Highwaymen. Starring Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson, the period drama has the duo playing retired police officers who don their hats for one last case: that of the notorious Bonnie and Clyde. The movie is based on the actual investigation that saw the outlaws gunned down in the 1930s, and has been in some form of development for almost 15 years.

A crime drama of a very different sort hits Stan this week. Bite Club is an Aussie thriller series that follows a group of shark-attack survivors who find themselves in the crosshairs of an even deadlier predator: a serial killer. Fortunately, the survivors happen to be experienced detectives, and they team up to turn the tables on their elusive nemesis.

For proof that fact is stranger than fiction, Foxtel rolls out a new A&E documentary series this week called Cults and Extreme Belief. As the title suggests, the docu-series dives deep into faith-based factions and segregated societies, exploring the dangers that tend to accompany the most extreme cloistered communities. From marketing self-help groups to gun-toting church-goers, the show is sure to leave you shaking your head at the power such groups can have over their devout followers.

Speaking of living in isolation, this week sees the long-awaited debut of Hanna on Amazon Prime Video. Like the similarly-titled 2011 film, Hanna revolves around a young girl raised by her father in the forests of Finland, separated from modern society. Through a gruelling regime of martial arts training, Hanna becomes a living weapon – one that soon attracts the attention of a rogue CIA agent determined to capture Hanna and exploit her for her own selfish purposes.

No streaming line-up would be complete without some intriguing international entertainment courtesy of SBS On Demand. This week it arrives by way of SS-GB, a BBC thriller series that imagines an alternate history where Germany successfully occupied the UK in WWII. With the country under the iron grip of the Nazi party, Scotland Yard detective Douglas Archer believes his homeland is lost forever. But when a murder investigation exposes a resistance movement bent on overthrowing the German occupation, Archer finds himself neck-deep in a nationwide rebellion.
