The biggest new releases coming to Netflix, Stan, hayu and Foxtel this week

Matt Sayer 16 April 2018 NEWS

Fans of superhero shows, zombies and political thrillers have an exciting week of streaming ahead of them.

After last week's relatively low-key line-up of new releases, Aussie streaming services are coming back with a bang. Led by a killer slate of new programming over on Foxtel, this week sees the kick-off of new seasons of a raft of big-name US TV shows, fast-tracked to Australian shores thanks to the power of the Internet.

Foxtel well and truly takes the cake this week, bringing bucketloads of terror with the premiere of season 4 of Fear the Walking Dead. As both a prequel and spin-off of the original The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead ventures into new territory with its fourth season, tying in with The Walking Dead's finale and even bringing over popular character Morgan to inject new blood into the series.

Superhero fans will be even more excited by Foxtel's offerings this week, with season 3 of Supergirl kicking off on Tuesday and the first season of X-Men spin-off The Gifted exploring the perils of being a mutant in a strictly humans-only world on Thursday.

It's a little quieter over on Netflix this week. Period-drama series The Alienist makes its debut on Thursday, diving into the grimy underbelly of 19th century America and the ugly early days of criminal psychology. If that's a little too full-on for you, the light-hearted animated series Spy Kids: Mission Critical gears up for some family-friendly hijinks on Friday.

Stan's line-up is similarly reserved, spearheaded by the addition of season 5 of Australian reality TV series House Husbands and the premiere of season 3 of the political documentary The Circus: Inside the Biggest Story on Earth.

hayu rounds out the week of streaming with the first episodes of Southern Charm: New Orleans and Sell It Like Serhant, giving reality TV fans plenty of interpersonal drama and unscripted chaos to revel in.
