StarLink, or STARL, is a decentralised metaverse project developed on the Ethereum blockchain. The project aims to offer an expansive 3D space-themed environment for users to play, explore, socialise, and express themselves within. Moving beyond the realms of just a game, STARL wants to combine the benefits of the metaverse with a crypto-based economy. While going on immersive adventures within the space-themed cosmos, users will be presented with opportunities to meet new people, collect and trade in-game items in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and engage in large-scale space battles.
According to the project’s documentation, all players can buy and own digital real estate within the STARL metaverse. Real estate comes in the form of space stations within the game. These ships can be personalised and traded amongst other players. There is also a financial incentive to mine asteroids and collect various resources within the game. All in-game collectibles can be traded or used to craft new valuable items. STARL is the name given to the native cryptocurrency that powers all transactions. Alongside being used as the main method for exchanging wealth within the metaverse, the STARL token is also used to ensure that the game remains decentralised. All token holders are eligible to join the decentralised autonomous organization (DAO), otherwise known as the STARLDAO.
