Stan streaming media brings a whole new experience in internet TV to Australia.
Launched to coincide with Australia Day, Stan has been available to subscribers since the 26th of January 2015. The internet streaming provider is equally owned by Fairfax Media and Nine Entertainment Co. and provides one more alternative for Australians to consider when they want to stream television shows and movies over the internet and onto their television set.
Stan has content broadcasting rights with Sony Pictures, ABC, SBS and World Movies as well as Viacom, MGM, BBC Worldwide, Showtime, CBS and Village Roadshow. These partnerships allow Stan to stream popular content owned by these companies to their subscribers.
The internet TV service provider has also struck a deal with ABC Commercial that allows them to broadcast the networks mostly Australian content. This includes popular TV shows like Private School Girl, It’s a Date and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. Another agreement is with Viacom, who is responsible for the television shows on MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon. With this agreement in place, Stan will be able to offer subscribers television series such as Teen Mom, Geordie Shore and South Park.
Like Netflix does with its production company, Stan is working with the Nine Network to create original content in the form of a drama series. This will give them exclusive rights to broadcast the show in the same way that Netflix is able to offer the wildly popular Orange is the New Black. Stan has already announced their plans to create a Wolf Creek spin off as well as a political drama series based around the life of a high court judge.
