Spotify finally makes its way to Xbox One

Music lovers can now blast tunes while blasting bad guys.

After two years spent envying PlayStation 4 owners, Xbox One users today received the news they've long been waiting for: Spotify is finally available on their console of choice.

Starting right now, Xbox One players can download the Spotify app from the Xbox Store and get grooving to the 30 million songs available on the service. If you've been using Spotify on other platforms, all your existing playlists and music preferences will transfer across for immediate access.

Best of all, the Xbox One Spotify app supports background play, so you can listen to your favourite music while blasting grubs in Gears of War 4 or burning rubber in Forza Horizon 3.

To celebrate this long-overdue occasion, Xbox figurehead Major Nelson has put together his own Spotify playlist you can tune into. Be warned, though: it's got Jingle Bell Rock on it.

Along with the recent unveiling of a new Xbox One dashboard, it's encouraging to see Microsoft making a clear effort to improve the Xbox One experience.
