Sony announces Australian availability for Xperia C5 Ultra
A mid-range handset for the seriously selfie-obsessed.
Sony’s premium handsets for 2015 are the Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact and Z5 Premium but that doesn’t mean that Sony’s done for the year in terms of handset releases.
It has just announced the local availability for the Xperia C5 Ultra, a mid-range Android handset that will sell through its own online store and via The Good Guys for $549 outright. There’s no sign at this time of any kind of contract carrier deal for the handset.

The standout feature for the C5 Ultra is the fact that it has the same camera sensor on the front and back of the handset, which is why Sony’s pitching it as a "selfie" handset. It’s not quite a unique approach, as makers such as HTC have had similar offerings in the past with the HTC Desire Eye, another handset that also sold exclusively as an outright retailer purchase.
