A body cream that promises to tighten the skin – does it really work?

Why we love this product

Finding a moisturiser that smells good and softens the skin isn't hard to do. There are so many on the market – we are really spoilt for choice! However, I have seen so many amazing reviews on the Sol De Janeiro Bum Bum cream. This little product has won plenty of awards and has effectively gained cult status within the beauty community.

But what makes it so special? This rich yet fast absorbing cream features an addictive smell with a powerhouse of nourishing ingredients. I decided to put it to the test and this is what I thought.

The quick verdict

Why is it good? This moisturiser hydrates and tightens my skin, and the effect continues long after the initial use.

How much is it? $69 for 240mL

Where to buy it? MECCA and Cult Beauty

How did the Brazilian Bum Bum cream start? If we consider the small bikini bottoms and the tight fitting jeans, it's safe to say that Brazilians are famous for their bottoms. And it turns out, their secret to a beautiful bottom is this body cream.

The key ingredients are guarana, capuacu butter and coconut oil, and they all have a purpose. Guarana not only contains five times the amount of caffeine than coffee, but also works to stimulate circulation, boost energy and smooth the skin.

The capuacu butter is high in fatty acids, meaning it will lock in all that moisture and seriously restore skin elasticity. Combining this with coconut oil, you've got yourself the softest skin yet.

When I first saw this product, I instantly recognised the bright yellow tub. The packaging really stands out among the abundance of my beauty products. It's colourful, tropical and cute to look at.

I prefer to apply my body moisturiser at night after my shower. I simply massaged the cream into my skin using deep circular motions. The texture is rich and creamy, and it easily melts into the skin.

This luxurious cream is so fast absorbing; I am obsessed. After application, I threw on my pyjamas and jumped straight into bed – no sticky feeling!

The results

How did I feel in the morning? Not only did my skin feel soft, smooth and nourished, but it actually looked tighter. I know that's what the body cream promises to do, but I was pretty shocked that it actually worked!

The Brazilian Bum Bum cream works to nourish and firm the skin, leaving you with a beautiful glow. After prolonged use, I may not look like a Brazilian model but I can tell that it's contributed to long lasting hydration. The cream has really helped improve my skin's texture.

Oh, and did I mention the addictive and gorgeous smell? The fragrance notes include pistachio and almond, with a hint of warm vanilla and salted caramel. If you're not into sweet scents, then you may not love it, but it is worth popping into MECCA and trying it for yourself.

The Bum Bum cream is also made without animal products, gluten, soy, parabens, artificial colours, phthalates, sulphates, talc, mineral oil, microbeads and PEGs.

The Brazilian Bum Bum cream retails at $69 for 240mL. If you don't feel like committing to the big tub, MECCA offers a mini size, 75mL for $30. Is it worth the price? Well, it's not something I would buy on a regular basis because I run out of moisturiser quickly and that's a lot of money. However, I will repurchase if I'm in the mood to spoil myself, or if I want to gift it to my friends.

Where to buy

If you're keen to get your hands on this fast, we recommend heading straight on over to MECCA. You can also buy it from Cult Beauty online – this retailer carries all the best beauty brands and you can even get free luxury samples with your order.
