  So that's what I was gonna say. The food is like, yes. Yummy. And I liked the appetisers because they feel really fresh, like the cucumber and the tomatoes you like. It's like nice and cold on Italian fresh and I like that. Yeah, but the real spritz cocktail, which is like the kind of like bubbly guavaberry Rosae oh my god that I could literally drink like 17 of them once. So yeah, I probably have did like lunch there for the podcast once. I think I had literally like 12 Like it was because like, I don't know, I've laid down a little too. So good and like Sal doesn't even like wine. And like she likes that cocktail.

  Yes. I Frankie's is the tequila apple. Yeah, these Israel spreads. My thing with toddies is I think it's like a fun time to go, especially if you're visiting Sydney. But I think there are definitely better places that you can probably get better bang for your buck as well. Like yeah, Vasco, which is an Italian place in Surry Hills. It's kind of a little bit grungy er as well. It's also a rock and roll. But they do like a bottomless brunch, like eight or you can think on Saturdays and Sunday, where you can get unlimited drinks and unlimited food that might be false. We shall check but it's like a really, really good deal for what you get. And I think it's like $89 Yeah.

  Like, so there's this this weird thing that people that actually live in Bondi Beach? Never go to Bondi Beach. Okay, which like, I didn't grow up there. I grew up in Castle Hill, which is like 40 minutes? Yes, like, West. And then like, because I would go to Bondi Beach to go to Bondi Beach. And then now, whenever you ask someone like, Oh, do you want to go to the beach? Like yeah, should be where should we go like Clovelly or, like Gordon Spain? We don't just go to strange I never like realised it. Yeah, it's because like, I don't have Bondi Beach. This probably isn't like it as a as a vibe and a jet like vicinity with like bars and the beach and the water and like the cliffs and stuff is beautiful. I love to live there. Yeah, but the beach itself is probably not my favourite beach.

  Yeah. What do you reckon, though? Because Have you heard of Bondi Beach before you move to Sydney.

  So funny. So I moved to Sydney without ever visiting before. So all I knew about Sydney was Bondi. And so I booked an Airbnb for three weeks in Bondi. And when I got picked up from the airport, and I was on my way to Bondi, I thought, I can't live in Australia. This is if this is Australia. I can't live here.

  Like it was, so my Airbnb was right next to the futon ologists. So it was that right on Bondi Beach. It was kind of more up the road. Do you know the futala just is.

So when I saw, like the architecture there, I was just like, wow, it's very everything so Oh, and then when I got to Bondi Beach, I thought, like, I love icebergs. I think it's so beautiful there, but the actual beach reminds me of kind of Venice Beach. Santa Monica vibes. I guess. It's more tourists are there Yeah. Backpackers. And so I'm just like, I want I prefer the harbour beaches. I love shark beach. I love Clontarf beach. And the Northern Beaches.

  Right? Yeah, right my heart. Now I'd have to agree because I grew up in Wollongong in like the northern suburbs. So all the beaches there are beautiful. That's just like denim shorts, denim skirts, denim jeans. And they're like, all vintage Levi's. So they kind of all worn in a little bit. And you can just find one that like fits you so well. And then there was another thing. Oh, then like this all the time. And like the girls that are having their own store, get really, really cheap. secondhand clothing, like back and bridge, Camilla remark. So yeah, we've done a few stores there as well. I really Yeah. And like my clothing that I was selling wasn't even like that fancy or expensive because I think we did it when, what, like five years ago.   So some days we'd go and it'd be really hot and we'd be really hungover and I was, I don't know if I can do this. There's nothing worse than like when you're hungover and the next day is really hot.   Okay, so you have experienced though living in the city and obviously working there and everything. So what do you think of like the city Darling Harbour Circular Quay? The whole vibe.

  I'm so biassed, cuz I think I would never live in any downtown. What you guys call CBD. anywhere else in the world. I wouldn't live in Los Angeles downtown. I wouldn't live in San Francisco or New York because it's just so many people. And it's so dirty. I think the CBD here is just so clean was so nice. Like there aren't that. It's just everything is immaculate. And I think that the restaurants all the restaurants are in the CBD in my opinion.

  Yeah, yeah. So I think I just I loved being there. I think circular key. I moved to Sydney three weeks before the first lockdown. So when I went to the opera house, it was just me and another stranger, like many feet apart from each other. So like, that was an amazing experience to walk through the rocks to see to see the opera house just completely alone. So I think that was special. But now it's a lot of you know, people and a lot of tourists again. So I would say I love the city and Darling Harbour because Darling Harbour has really cute events in the so pass no Smash, smash smash to the city and Darling Harbour pass to circulate way.

  Really, I still love circular K though, just because of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. I even live living in Sydney for the last eight years and growing up like not that far away. So I'd see it all the time. But I still am like, like, when I'm on the train. I always like look up at Circular Quay to get the view. I feel very lucky to live here.

  Yeah, I don't think I could ever live in the CBD. No, I don't think likely. Yeah, I think it would. It feels like not warm to me. Like it feels very impersonal. And it doesn't kind of feel homey. Yeah, in a way. I think that's that's what it is. Like it's just it feels a bit cold. Yeah, I could only live around the buildings and I'm like, I want to see some you know what I mean? I need some grass. emotion and yeah, that kind of vibe and some dogs whereas like the city just doesn't have that for me picture 10 in

And just like some of the best nights of my life have just been like, oh, you know, strolling down that after a few bevvies posing absolute having been like, that's great. I'm Tom Tussauds. Like it's a good time. I just don't think I could live there. I would give it a smash. I love Sydney. People love to talk Sydney and like, yeah, the nightlife definitely probably isn't as good as like Melbourne or whatever. But just, we're probably all biassed. Yeah.

So she's never really had to like work on her personality. A little bit like she's nice and everything but you know, like, she's nice to look at and oh, that was like Melbourne is maybe the one that's not as pretty but that means just had to work on our personality a bit more. So the reason why they're cool is because I feel like most sushi places in Sydney is very traditional. It's just fish avocado. Very simple. But wish you could they add in all these different creative ingredients, which is what more Americans do. She's like.

  I literally had to have like my Fila dissolved in my lips because it had just like all migrated. And I was like, this is not the vibe. And then like had bruises all over my face was not cute, funny, sexy spot. But yeah, it's okay. We survived the torture over that. But yeah, it's so important to like, do your research and go to a proper, like, cosmetic nurse or doctor. Because I feel like it's probably a bit spicy to say, but I feel like everyone's got a licence to do it now. And they don't ya know what they're doing? Exactly. And you just end up getting your face backed up. Yeah. All right, so our final question of this whirlwind romance of Sydney that you've had and moving here, but what's been some of like, the biggest life lessons you've learned moving to a different country that you had never been to before? And how has that experience kind of changed you? In a way?

  I think for the majority of my life, I felt very lonely. So I think coming to Sydney three weeks before locked down, and not really being able to socialise kind of really taught me how to be alone, and it's okay to be alone. And so finally, I'm like, I don't feel lonely anymore. It's crazy.

  Sally McMullen
  I love that.

  It's amazing. And like, 2020 I didn't go out of my way to make friends. I really spent time alone going on walks, you know, we all did that during lockdown. And then I think 2021 is when I kind of started socialising more making new friends. But I think because in LA I really did learn how to network and make new friends in LA. I like learned how I just kind of use those same techniques here. And so but I know how hard it is to make new friendships and in a new city, and so I started hosting mixers. This is so cute. Yeah, love. Good. So like my first one was in the beginning of October, we had it at this restaurant and 55 girls showed up, all dressed up, like no one knew each other. And now they all hang out like after the event one week later, they went to, like this event that was hosted at, you know, the city night markets. Yeah, they went to that together. And then the weekend after they got tacos, how it's really awesome. And most of the girls that were there are from Sydney, born and raised in Sydney. So it just shows that you can be lonely, even if that's the city you're from.

  It's hard making new friends as an adult.

  Alex Hourigan
  Everyone says that and it really is like whether or not you're moving to a different city or you know, you kind of want to grow a little bit more outside of your friendship group or meet new people. It really is hard and people do say that Sydney is quite cliquey. Yeah, they do. Yeah. And like, I would agree with that, too. Like, I think, as well, when we've gone on that trips or holidays, it's so easy to just like turn to a table and like start chatting to them. Yeah, as I don't feel like I'd feel confident enough to do that in Sydney. Yeah, I'd probably be like, Yeah, I think it's so like, I think it can be clicky and it can be intimidating, trying to make new friends. Especially as you get older. I think that's so fun. I just met next mixer.
