Skincare junkies can relate – SkinCeuticals is one of those brands you've read the amazing reviews for and you've always wanted to try, but the price tags make your wallet cry.

The brand prides itself on innovative formulations that are backed by science – hence the hefty price tag.

I was lucky enough to be gifted a couple of products from the Phyto Corrective range. If you're looking for a soothing, hydrating and brightening serum, the gel serum should be at the top of your wishlist.

What does it do?

The SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel promises to soothe and hydrate your skin, all while helping to even skin tone. It's formulated with hyaluronic acid and a blend of calming and anti-redness botanical ingredients like cucumber, thyme and olive leaf.

Eucalyptus works to minimise congestion and mulberry extract helps to brighten and reduce dark spots.

While this product is suitable for all skin types, it's particularly aimed towards those with sensitive skin, redness or rosacea. The formulation does not disrupt the skin's natural hydration barrier, but rather supports it.

Does it work?

While my skin isn't overly sensitive, I was very excited to try this product for its brightening and hydrating properties. Acne scarring is something I'm actively trying to improve, and I found that the Phyto Corrective Gel significantly improved the way my skin looked and felt.

I've been using this SkinCeuticals product every morning for a month, after my vitamin C serum and before my moisturiser.

One of my favourite things about this moisturising serum is the texture. It feels super lightweight on the skin, doesn't feel tacky or sticky, and doesn't take too long to dry. I only have to wait a few seconds before following up with my daily moisturiser.

Once my skincare routine is complete and all the products have settled into the skin, my complexion looks brighter and more hydrated, and dark spots and redness are nowhere to be seen.

Should you buy it?

  • Buy it if: You suffer from sensitive skin, redness or rosacea.
  • Don't buy it if: You’re looking for an affordable serum.

Overall, I give the SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel 4 stars out of 5. I adore the formulation – it's lightweight and feels beautiful on the skin – and I love the way my complexion looks after just one use.

However, it did lose a star for two reasons: The hefty price tag isn't accessible for everyone and the dropper bottle can start to get unhygienic if you're not careful.

If you've got the cash to spend and you feel like treating yourself, I highly recommend the Phyto Corrective Gel, especially if your sensitive skin rejects everything else you try to use.

Will I buy it with my own money? While I may not be adding it to my regular rotation, I can definitely see myself buying it in the future. I'll also be keeping my eye on Adore Beauty, where SkinCeuticals has gone on sale a few times throughout the year.
