Eczema is one of those conditions that is tough to battle. Anything from dehydrating products to cold weather or stress can cause a flare-up. And sometimes flare-ups seem to happen for no reason at all. If you or a family member suffer from eczema then you’ll know just how much of a challenge managing the condition can be. From doctors appointments to frequent pharmacy trips, it’s not always easy to find the right products or advice.
And while we’re not healthcare experts here at Finder, we do know what’s what in the realm of skincare. As awareness about eczema and dry skin grows, brands and companies are cottoning on and finding new ways to cater to problematic skin.
We’ve put together a list of our favourite skincare brands that have been specifically designed for dry and sensitive skin, and that can be used by eczema sufferers to help soothe their itchy condition. None of these are prescription – you’ll be able to pick them up at your local pharmacy or supermarket.

One of the most popular skincare brands in the UK, E45 is a new brand to Australia. It’s dermatologically tested and has been specifically designed for dry skin. Plus its cheap. E45 brings relief to a wide range of dry skin conditions including flaking skin. And the brand says specifically that “cream E45 reduces skin dryness in conditions such as eczema.”
In addition to its signature cream (which is just $10.99 for 125g), it also offers a lighter moisturiser and shower cream suitable for eczema sufferers. This is the brand that my family uses for dry skin conditions.

Sebamed is a skincare line designed to protect the skin’s natural pH level of 5.5. It’s gentle enough for even very sensitive skin but still contains the ingredients necessary to moisturise and cleanse. At the core of every product, Sebamed supports and sustains a healthy skin acid mantle, which helps skin stay hydrated, clear and nourished. Approved by dermatologists, Sebamed can be helpful in the treatment of eczema and even acne.
At $14.99 for a 400mL bottle of moisturising lotion, this is one you can definitely afford. This brand also has a range of products specifically suited for eczema sufferers if you are looking for a targeted regime.

New to the Australian market, CeraVe is another brand perfect for dry skin conditions like eczema. The name “CeraVe” actually comes from the word ceramide, which is a type of fat in the top layer of your skin that keeps the epidermis smooth, clear and hydrated. When your skin lacks ceramides, this is when eczema can be triggered and itching starts. CeraVe is designed to replace lost ceramide and keep your skin in tip-top shape.
With cleansers for face and body, creams, lotions and even eye cream, you can build your entire skincare routine from this one brand. The 1 litre bottle of moisturising lotion is $28.99, so it’s good value and can be used by the whole family.

This is another fantastic brand that hides unknowingly in the shelves of your local supermarket. The key ingredient in Dermaveen is colloidal oatmeal, which has been used for centuries to help skin conditions. In the 50s, science proved that oatmeal helps preserve skin pH, relieves itching and nourishes, so it’s ideal for eczema sufferers.
In addition to its standard skincare ranges, Dermaveen has a specific line designed just for eczema. It’s signature eczema ointment is $13.99 for 200mL so it’s good value too.

Cetaphil is one you probably know from the brand’s famous skin cleanser. It’s a favourite of Pharell Williams who claims it is the secret to his ageless complexion. But Cetaphil doesn’t just make cleanser. This brand makes lotions, creams and body washes. While it doesn’t have a line specifically designed for those with eczema, it’s still a good option.
Formulated by dermatologists, Cetaphil’s products are soap-free (so they won’t exacerbate dryness) and they’re gentle on sensitive skin. The standard 550g tub of moisturising cream is $19.95 so it won’t break the bank.

Vaseline is a historic brand (started in 1859) founded on the principle that truly healthy skin starts with deep moisture, which is ideal for those with eczema or dry skin. The original Vaseline product is a petroleum jelly that can relieve skin irritations like nappy rash, burns and cuts but can also uniquely protect your skin from the elements.
By the 1960s, the brand extended its product range to include moisturising creams, and it’s been a skincare go-to ever since. It’s old-school but it works, and a 100g tub of Vaseline will set you back just $4.49.

This is a German brand with a long history of scientific research. It’s actually surprising to find out just how much expertise and innovation is involved in this humble pharmacy brand. Eucerin offers a lot of different products including anti-ageing and acne ranges, but it also has a range devoted to dry skin, which would be most helpful to those with eczema.
The brand is very transparent with its processes and actually has a whole boat-load of information around the formulation of its dry skincare range. Clinically tested, this is a great option especially if you want to know exactly how your products work. Like the other brands, it also offers value for money. The 100g tube of signature dry skin ointment rings in at just $8.95.
