Skies clearing for Bali travel insurance

After erupting early last week, the smoke has cleared from Mt Rinjani but not all travel insurance brands have lifted their restrictions.
While the smoke has cleared from the skies around Bali and flights have resumed as normal, not all travel insurance brands have updated their policies on cancellations caused by the most recent ash cloud.
Mount Rinjani on the island of Lombok, Indonesia erupted last week causing flight delays and cancellations due to the resulting ash cloud.
This is the second time in the last 12 months this volcano has erupted and disrupted flights to the area.
Insurance underwriters – and their subsequent travel insurance brands – were quick to act in the face of the disruptions caused by the most recent eruption. The vast majority placed a moratorium on cancellations claims caused by the ash cloud for anyone purchased their policies after either 1 or 2 August 2016.
However, one underwriter has been quick to lift its restrictions.
As of 5 August 2016 QBE, which underwrites both Easy Travel Insurance and Travel Insurance Saver, is offering cover for those going to Bali in the event of future cancellations caused by eruptions on the island.
