About Singles' Day

Singles' Day originated in China in the 1990s. The accepted legend of the event is that students of Nanjing University began exchanging gifts to set aside Valentine's Day.

11 November was reportedly chosen to represent "single sticks", which is Chinese slang referring to bachelors.

The event has experienced astronomical growth from its humble origins. By some metrics, it surpasses Black Friday and Boxing Day as the world's most profitable sales events.
