Singapore named Australia’s top booked destination
Find out who else topped the list for Aussie travellers.
Booking.com has revealed its data on Australia's top booked destinations in 2017 and Singapore has topped the list.
We’ve seen a lot of buzz about Singapore recently, including a slew of airfare sales to the city so it’s no wonder it’s a favourite of Aussie travellers. Many holiday goers flock to the city for its world-class shopping opportunities and renowned culture.
Asian locations actually feature in six of the top ten booked destinations and our neighbours to the east also found themselves at the top with popular Auckland nabbing a spot.
Bali picked up two spots in the international top ten list, proving popular with Western Australians and Northern Territory residents.
Victoria and South Australia bucked the trends last year and were the only states that didn’t favour an Asia-Pacific location. London was each state’s most popular top-booked destination. England’s capital also ranked as the second most popular international destination for Aussies overall.
For domestic travel, Queenslanders have been taking advantage of their good fortune up in the sunshine state, preferring to explore their own backyard more than any other state. Down south, South Australians were the complete opposite, with only two of the state's locations ranked in the "most booked" domestic destinations by the state's travellers.
Of this year's trends, Booking.com area manager Luke Wilson said: "Recent research has also revealed Brisbane as an emerging travel destination in 2018, so we look forward to seeing the impact this has in bookings this year."
